The Eastern International Poultry Summit 2026 in Enugu provided an important platform to advance conversations around the future of poultry, agriculture and investment in the South East.
Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director of the South East Development Commission, Mr. Mark Okoye Jnr., I reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting poultry development as a pathway to stronger food security, job creation and regional economic growth.
With the right investment, collaboration and market support, the South East can rebuild a competitive poultry value chain and retain more economic value within the region.
The SEDC remains committed to working with the Poultry Association of Nigeria and other stakeholders to move these conversations into practical outcomes.
It was a privilege to represent the Managing Director/CEO of the South East Development Commission at the 20th edition of the Africa Food Systems Forum, held at the International Convention Center in Kigali Rwanda, 1-4th September, 2026.
Celebrating 20 years of Food Systems transformation in Africa, this year’s forum with the theme: “Investing in Africa’s Agri-Food Systems” is the continent's leading platform for bringing together Heads of Governments and Policy Makers, Private sector leaders and investors, researchers and scientists, youth farmers, organizations, development partners and other stakeholders committed to advancing Africa’s Food Systems.
As we are getting ready to flag off our robust South East regional Agro Development program, starting with Enugu State, SEDC used the platform to canvas for investments in the region’s Agri Food Systems for nourishment, job growth and resilience building.
Today, I give thanks to God for the gift of life and the privilege of another year.
As I reflect on the journey so far, I remain deeply grateful for the experiences, relationships, and opportunities to serve that have shaped my path.
I am especially thankful to my family, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers for their unwavering support and goodwill.
This new chapter strengthens my commitment to purposeful leadership, meaningful service, and contributing to the development of our people and nation.
Here’s to another year of greater impact, progress, and fulfilment.
WELCOME TO AUGUST
May this month be marked by peace, good health, productivity and success. I wish you a fulfilling and prosperous month ahead.
Happy New Month.
Ahead of the flag off of the SEDC Agro Mechanization projects, my team and I, with the support of the Enugu state government successfully conducted community stakeholder engagements covering the 3 Senatorial zones in Enugu State; namely: Uzo-Uwani, Oji River and Nume in Nkanu East Local government areas.
In line with SEDC Vision 2050 and the South East Agricultural Development Programme - SEADP, the Commission is establishing mechanized Agro Farms to drive food security, youth employment, and commercial agriculture across the region.
International and local experience show that 80% of agro-infrastructure delays stem from poor community engagement and from our intensive conversations with the communities, we discovered that the project success is contingent on early community buy-in, land access clarity, and security assurance.
To test the SEDC Agro-Mechanization model before scaling across the entire region, pilot sites have been identified and technically verified in Enugu State and we are now ready to drive this agro development revolution for the South East region of Nigeria.
As Executive Director Natural Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development in the South East Development Commission, I was privileged to lead the commission at a meeting with the management of National Biotechnology Development Agency in Abuja.
Both agencies held deliberate discussions on collaboration, particularly in leveraging biotechnology innovations for agricultural development, healthcare, and economic growth in the South East region.
Happy New Month!
May this new month bring open doors, meaningful connections, divine favor, and the courage to pursue everything you have been called to do.
It was a privilege to represent the Managing Director of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) at the Nzuko Umuotorobia Na South East 2026 held in Enugu.
The engagement was a timely reminder of the immense potential that lies within the South East, particularly in the hands of its young people. In his remarks, the Managing Director commended the youth for organizing such a purposeful gathering and encouraged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the region.
He emphasized that the revival and preservation of our cultural heritage must remain central to our development agenda, while urging us to see the South East not as fragmented states but as one integrated economic market with shared opportunities and collective prosperity.
He also challenged the youth to embrace the responsibility of leadership with courage, recognizing that every generation is called to confront and overcome the unique challenges of its time. Importantly, he called for a renewed commitment to the enduring Igbo philosophy of Onye aghala nwanne ya (let no one leave their brother behind), as the foundation for unity, collaboration, and sustainable progress.
Finally, he urged young people to use social media responsibly, resisting the spread of misinformation and narratives that undermine the growth, unity, and future of our region.
It was an honour to be part of this important conversation and to witness the shared commitment toward building a stronger, more united, and prosperous South East.

Building a stronger and more prosperous South-East requires strategic partnerships and collective action.
At SEDC, we are committed to driving regional transformation by coordinating investments, fostering collaboration, and implementing impactful programmes across infrastructure, agriculture, enterprise, and youth development. Through continuous engagement with state governments, the private sector, and development partners, we are laying the foundation for sustainable growth and shared prosperity across the region.

The South East Development Commission (SEDC) yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Enugu State Government to advance the South East Agro Development Programme, a strategic regional initiative aimed at unlocking agricultural productivity, attracting private investment, strengthening food security, and creating sustainable economic opportunities across the South East.
The signing formalises months of technical planning, stakeholder engagement, and field assessments undertaken jointly by SEDC and the Enugu State Government. It also marks the first state-level implementation partnership under a programme that will be expanded across all five South East states.
Through strategic collaboration with state governments, the private sector, development partners, financial institutions, research institutions, and host communities, SEDC is laying the foundation for an integrated agro-industrial ecosystem that transforms agricultural potential into productive, investable, and inclusive economic growth.
This is how we build a more prosperous South East: through deliberate planning, strong partnerships, and disciplined execution.

I had the honour of representing the Managing Director/CEO of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mr. Mark C. Okoye, at the commissioning of the Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation (CeDFOCI) in Enugu State.
The historic event was led by His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, and graced with the presence of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, as well as the Inspector General of Police, underscoring the importance of strengthening Nigeria's forensic and criminal investigation capabilities.
This landmark initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration in advancing science, innovation, security, and justice in our nation.
