@Ajaypal_Saran@spittinchiclets@GoldenKnights In all reality he is still employed, Vegas is still paying Cassidy 4.5 million to sit on the couch. Vegas knows he is an asset to a division rival (like the oilers who need a coach), and he signed a non-compete clause. He damn well knew the risks.
And look, I’ll play devils advocate and agree with you; I would think it’s weird for someone (like someone from like Toronto or Alberta) to say they like both teams. (I know imma get tomatoes thrown at me) but seriously, it raises red flags because when Vegas starts to lose (every team goes through it) will they still be here? Nevada will. A lot of Arizonans will (if and when we get a new team here it will be a nasty rivalry). Shit I will. I already like crappy teams who can’t win this will just be another one. I don’t see Vegas locals turning off the tv or stop going to games either.
Tbh my story ain’t really that uncommon here. A lot of VGK fans in Nevada, Arizona, and Southern New Mexico just felt like we couldn’t really be involved with the NHL. Like what team should we have followed? The Yotes? With that ownership? Or Colorado? Where they don’t even show games here? It was hard.
I am gonna assume; you’re not from the United States and are Canadian. Idk how familiar you are with Vegas (not the party Vegas, like VEGAS Vegas) but before the VGK, they really didn’t have any entertainment that was for them. A LOT of locals in Vegas work for or know someone working in a casino. People travel to their city to get trashed, leave it trashed, and treat them like trash. But you have a team come in and cater to locals it’s a huge deal. Hockey was never a thing but you ask anyone now they have their kids playing in it, rinks popping up left and right, players will do classes for the kids for the hell of it (they even come to AZ now!) Not to mention the shooting. After the shooting VGK going on that run was what created die hard locals. It really didn’t mattered if they won or lost against Washington. It more was a matter of how much the team showed they want to play.
Raiders game-day, yeah you have some locals wearing jerseys. But when VGK plays? Talk about EVERYONE wearing a jersey in 110 degree weather.
When you were a kid and on the pitch in a pickup game at lunchtime, there was always that one kid who would play but no one was really friends with. The girls liked him because he was the fastest kid in school but really no dudes like to hang out with him. He would only want to play offensively, never really put in any effort to fight for possession, but would only rush to create an opening and call for the ball to shoot it. Would get upset that no one passed it to them. When he did score it was always a ‘your lucky you have me on your team because I did it.’ Not to mention they get upset after every missed shot, doesn’t celebrate when someone else scores. It feels like no one else is allowed to shoot the ball because it’s always a ‘I WAS OPEN,’ ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!’, ‘COME ON!!!’. You would really question if the goals scored was for the team or for them, so you and the other kids just get to the point you just don’t want to give them that satisfaction anymore because it gets tiring.
You can’t possibly look at anyone in the eye and say that that kid was your best player on your team.
Now that I am a few days removed from the cup, I’ve been thinking…
As a VGK fan, it’s going to be a tough pill to swallow but we have to accept that the old guard needs to change if we want to keep up with winning. The cup showed that our guys were gassed.
Gonna be a hard off season seeing the trades that come through. #ForgedInGold
1. Tortorella was never going to be the long term answer. It was known that he was only a Hail Mary hire for a ‘win now’ play. Management knows the window for a cup is closing with the vet core (Stone, Barbie(??), Karlsson,McNabb).
2. Tortorella is not a great long term coach because he tends to always clash with management let alone his players get burned out as the season goes. Cassidy lost the locker room after 4 years (not bad) because his style tends to wear vets out. But Tortorella would definitely only would have lasted maybe 2 seasons max with the VGK.
Ok I wanna answer this one seriously. I know this is twitter so people will throw tomatoes at it but whatever. Read it if you want.
I am 27 from Southern AZ. Before 2017 I was a casual hockey fan because in 2016 the AHL Roadrunners were our new team in town. Never watched hockey until the Roadrunners.
I was never a Yotes fan, they were always crappy to AZ locals and never tried to develop the game. So in 2016(?) Vegas announced they were getting a team, Raiders announced they were moving to Vegas, dumb teenage brain logic was “I can go to Raider games and VGK games in the same trip.” But when I started really learning about the game, players, team culture, even learning roller hockey, I realized I love this game. Like football, soccer, and baseball are grown love but hockey is a found one.
VGK plays the Yotes first home game and kicks there teeth in, that cemented me being a fan, rest is history.
I’m from Southern AZ,
I have a Raiders tattoo and I haven’t cut my arm off yet.
I spend so much money on driving to Phoenix for Dbacks games for them to be ass and I still have fun.
VGK can go 0-82 next season and I’ll still wear my jersey in 105 degree weather.
I ain’t going anywhere. #ForgedInGold
As a VGK fan…
Huge congratulations to the Hurricanes for an incredible #StanleyCup win. Hell of a team #SoundTheSiren .
For my VGK, hell of a year. Obviously, not the outcome we wanted. Team has a lot to work on and we have a lot of question marks going into the off season but for right now it really doesn’t matter, we can just fell the disappointment.
I’ll say it again, I bleed gold. Can’t wait for what next season brings. #ForgedInGold
