In 2001, something historic happened in American politics.

Following the momentum of the 2000 Nader/LaDuke campaign, activists and state parties from across the country gathered to take a massive leap forward. They moved beyond being a loose collection of local groups to officially found the Green Party of the United States.
Later that year, the Federal Election Commission officially recognized the Green Party as a national committee – confirming what we already knew: a real alternative to the two-party duopoly had finally arrived.

Today we celebrate Green Party Day to commemorate the 25th anniversary of that pivotal moment in 2001. For a quarter of a century, we have been the only national party to stand firm against corporate influence, refuse PAC money, and fight tirelessly for:
Ecological Wisdom to face the climate crisis.
Social Justice for all, not just the few.
Grassroots Democracy that puts power back in your hands.
Non-Violence as a cornerstone of our foreign policy.

Unlike the Democrats and Republicans, we don't have billionaire donors or corporate lobbyists funding our headquarters. Our "Founding Mothers and Fathers" in 2001 designed this party to be people-powered. That means we rely entirely on supporters like you to keep our ballot lines open, support our candidates, and spread our message of peace and planet over profit.
