Nigeria and Canada have signed an expanded Air Transport Agreement that paves the way for direct scheduled flights between both countries, marking a major milestone in bilateral aviation relations, trade, tourism, and economic cooperation. The agreement is expected to strengthen connectivity, reduce travel time and logistics costs, and deepen commercial, educational, and cultural ties between the two nations.

Key highlights:

- Both countries can now designate multiple airlines to operate scheduled services.

- The agreement provides for 14 weekly passenger flights and 10 weekly all-cargo flights for designated airlines of each country.

- It grants Fifth Freedom Traffic Rights for all-cargo operations, allowing cargo airlines to transport freight between two foreign countries as part of services originating or terminating in their home country.

- The expanded framework is expected to boost tourism, trade, investment, business travel, and cultural exchanges, while lowering travel and logistics costs.

- With over 25,000 Nigerians holding valid Canadian study permits as of 31 March 2026, the agreement is expected to further support educational exchanges and people-to-people relations.

- The agreement expands the bilateral air services framework originally negotiated in 2014 and formally signed in March 2025, representing its first major expansion in more than a decade.

Federal Government has launched the National Cancer Control Plan (2026–2030) with the goal of reducing Nigeria's cancer burden by 30 percent by 2030, while strengthening prevention, early detection, treatment, research, and access to quality cancer care.

The plan prioritises prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, research, data management, artificial intelligence, and oncology workforce development.

UPDATE!

Ahead of the rollout of 7 million electricity meters procured by the Federal Government, about 5,000 personnel will be trained to help install them.

The application portal opens on July 4 for eligible applicants, including secondary school graduates and NYSC members. This is not a full-time employment programme, but a certification and skills-training initiative.

The first phase of the installation will commence in Abuja before expanding to other geopolitical zones across the country.

AACA Urges EFCC to Probe Alleged N1.7 Trillion Linked to Senator Yari’s Company

AACA alleged that AJAP Financial Services Limited, a private company registered with Corporate Affairs Commission Registration Number 1851464 and located at Plot 1289, Wikki Springs Street, Maitama, Abuja, maintained the account into which the funds were reportedly paid. The group further claimed that the account signatory is Abdullahi Abdulkarim Tsafe, identified as a former Chief of Staff to Senator Abdulaziz Yari during his tenure as Governor of Zamfara State.

The group also alleged that funds from the account were subsequently transferred to several other entities and individuals, including ASAD Universal Concept, ASAD Infrastructural Tech Ltd, ASAD Energy Fleet Ltd, Kayatawa Nig. “NASENI Is Ready to Support MDAs on Digital Transformation” – Khalil Halilu, EVC

The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (@NASENIHQ), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu (@NASENIHQ), has reiterated the Agency’s commitment to supporting Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in accelerating their digital transformation through the adoption of integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions.

Speaking at the Nigeria Public Service Lecture Series organized by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (@BPP_NG) in Abuja, Khalil said public service reform is fundamentally a leadership commitment that must be driven by innovation, technology, and a culture of performance.

He noted that when he assumed office in 2023, many of NASENI’s processes were manual, approvals were slow, and digital adoption was limited. However, through deliberate institutional reforms and the deployment of an ERP system, the Agency now operates a largely paperless and data-driven environment.

According to him, the transformation has significantly improved operational efficiency, transparency, accountability, and service delivery across the Agency, while empowering staff at all levels to utilize digital tools in their daily operations.

Drawing from NASENI’s experience, the EVC emphasized that institutions transform when people embrace change and technology, adding that digital transformation remains critical to building a more efficient and responsive public service.

He therefore invited MDAs across the country to partner with NASENI in deploying ERP solutions tailored to their operational needs, stressing that the future of governance is digital and innovation-driven.

The Nigeria Public Service Lecture Series provides a platform for senior public officials, policy leaders, and development partners to discuss strategies for strengthening public institutions, advancing governance reforms, and improving service delivery in Nigeria.
