PART 2👇
The admission letter came… but there was one BIG problem. ✈️
We saw the cost!!
₦10.6 MILLION.
In 2012. 😭😭😭
That was the total cost of the commercial pilot training, and it could be paid in three instalments. But we needed about ₦5.7 million just to enrol.
My family simply could not afford it.
Omo. Dream jam reality. 😂😭
Naso we begin dey beg big people for Ogun State.
Everybody stood up for me — Alhajis, Imams, family friends, and basically anyone who knew somebody in government tried to connect us.
I remember going several times to the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, the Olu of Ilaro.
In our presence, he called someone in government and helped us secure an appointment with the Commissioner for Education at Oke-Mosan.
The dream was beginning to look real again…
By 8AM on the appointed day, we were sitting right in front of the Commissioner in his office.
He listened to us and promised to speak with the Governor and get back to us.
Well, an Alhaji also took us to Governor Amosun’s elder brother’s house so he could help us put mouth. 😂
We tried everything we could.
At the end of the day…
No show. 😭😭
I eventually went to university and studied Physics & Education instead.
I graduated with a First Class, finishing with a 4.64/5.00 CGPA and emerging as the Best Graduating Student in Physics.
That academic excellence eventually opened another door for me — a scholarship to Germany 🇩🇪 for my Master’s degree.
Germany led to the Netherlands 🇳🇱.
And that journey eventually brought me to the United States 🇺🇸.
All from a path I probably wouldn’t have taken if my family had ₦10.6 million lying around in 2012. 😂
Sometimes I look back at that 17-year-old boy standing at an aviation college, desperate to become a commercial pilot, and I wonder:
What if we had been able to afford that tuition?
Would I have become a pilot?
Would I have studied Physics?
Would I have gone to Germany?
Would I be doing what I do today?
I don’t know.
But one thing I’ve learnt from my journey is this:
A closed door doesn’t always mean the end of the dream. Sometimes, life is simply redirecting you to a route you couldn’t see yet.
And the funny thing?
The love for aviation never left. ✈️❤️
Fourteen years later, I’m now in talks with an aviation school in my city.
The dream may have changed, but it never died.
I still hope to earn at least my Private Pilot Licence someday. ✈️
Maybe that 17-year-old boy will still get to fly after all.
So help me God. 🙏🏾😊✈️
