It’s time for Labour to remember its roots and reinstate the right to peaceful protest.

The humanist James Baldwin on racism, Cambridge University 1965.
You could hear a pin drop.
His words still resonate powerfully today, and Baldwin remains a timeless voice against racism – especially now, on the centennial of his birth. His was born #OnThisday 1924.
@carla_denyer@theipaper But you won't be doing it, will you @carla_denyer? You are relying on the Labour party to achieve your goals, behind your veneer of moral superiority. All while you are trying to get rid of one of the best MPs Bristol has ever had diminishing our communities. What lies, what ego!
@Bristol_People @carla_denyer You're a person, not people: anonymous, therefore worthless in this context. The Tory government has denuded Bristol Council of all real power for more than a decade. We need a new government and Bristol voters should contribute to that, not rely on others to do the work.
@carla_denyer So want a labour government but let other people do the heavy lifting. Complacency.
Big 'wish list' with no intention to actually carry it out. Complacency. Doesn't this mean vote Carla Denya because you live in a comfortable lie?
@carla_denyer@bristolgreen So basically you rely on the Labour Party. Voters in Bristol Central need to be aware that if their vote is going to count/make a difference in our future government then vote for @ThangamDebb .
Be honest: a protest vote is irrelevant in this context.
@bristolideas@ImmyKaur This creating Voscur (capacity for community groups and social enterprises) came partially out of Common Purpose discussions and Bristol and Bath Regional Capital likewise out of RSA supported events.
@bristolideas@ImmyKaur Thinking about it there isn't much from middle ranking bureaucrats like me. Productive networking around issues that are not part of their chiefs' main, driving, agendas - may allow for more creative thinking at all levels and solutions can arise.
@bristolideas The elephant in the room is West of England as the senior local authority, with strategic, public service and tax raising powers, and councillors for each ward. Long term and joined up responsibility at place and region level.
@happinesskitbag@DanicaPriest @EllieFreemanBS3 It's quite normal for any dog to act aggressively to protect its territory, or that of it's leaders (humans).
@DanicaPriest @EllieFreemanBS3 I sometimes ask people if they've actually tried their own letter box - it's a great learning point in self awareness, esp. for those people who take a mortal high ground.
@DanicaPriest @EllieFreemanBS3 This is an everyday problem for posties etc. some are really low down, many have sharp edges, heavy sprung flap and/or heavy/stiff back flaps and draught brushes. When delivering a 'flimsy' you often need to put your fingers through - which means that a dog can easily attack.
@bristolfemuse Indeed, instead of becoming more resilient as a city we may be increasingly vulnerable to decisions made by non-stakeholders. How can we ensure our priorities?
