When David Attenborough was born on 8 May 1926, the world population was around 1.9 billion people. Today it stands at over 8.3 billion meaning the planet's human population has more than quadrupled in his lifetime

Half of all global forest loss has occurred in the last century alone almost exactly Attenborough's lifetime. Since 1990 alone, the world has lost around 180 million hectares of forest, with tropical areas hit hardest.
🐋 An estimated 91% of ocean species have yet to be discovered, described and catalogued. Even after a century of Blue Planet and ocean documentaries, the seas remain largely unknown which Attenborough himself has called one of the great remaining frontiers of geography.
🌡️ In 1926 global CO₂ levels were around 305 parts per million. Today they exceed 425 ppm the highest in human history, and a core message Attenborough has championed to millions worldwide.
