UPDATE: This person told my boss on me for the singing they felt was “inappropriate” and also left a wonderfully horrendous survey score for Patient-Experience satisfaction. Yes!
Today at work I was loudly singing Nelly Furtado’s “Like a Bird” into what I thought was an empty waiting room. Needless to say:
1.) I was not alone
2.) Patient-Experience satisfaction rates better be THROUGH THE ROOF after that quality (yet priceless) entertainment.
me: today is going to be a great day!
anxiety: welllllll....
me: well, what?
anxiety: eeeeeeee idk...
* ᵗʳᶦᵍᵍᵉʳᵉᵈ*
me: WHAT?!
anxiety: nahhh, forget it. do ur thing. i’ll just wait over here til ur done 👍🏼
Just a tip, fellas - it may be tempting to crack jokes on Twitter about Dr. Blasey Ford's hearing, but
1) a woman you think you care about has definitely been sexually assaulted
2) she hasn't told you about it
3) she will see your cute little joke and lose faith in you
Self care is also:
- Not arguing with people who are committed to misunderstand you.
- Not trying to change people by lowering your frequency to meet them on their level.
- Standing in your own frequency, and letting people rise up to meet you.
