I bought fuel yesterday in Toronto, Canada, at $1.7999 CAD per litre, and it cost about $98.95 CAD to fill up my tank. This should ideally last me about a week or more.
Now, the minimum wage in Canada is $17.95 CAD per hour, which means someone who works an average of 8 hours a day will earn $143.60 CAD before tax. A day's salary is enough to fuel his or her car for 2–3 weeks. This means that even one of the lowest earners in Canada can afford to own and drive a car daily without the cost of fuel becoming an overwhelming burden. Public education for children is also free and of high quality.
In Nigeria, fuel is about ₦1,300 per litre. It would cost about ₦88,000 to fill up a similar tank. The minimum wage in Nigeria is ₦70,000 per month. This means that an entire month's minimum wage cannot even fill the tank once.
A minimum-wage earner in Nigeria cannot realistically afford to own, fuel, and maintain a car. The same person still has to afford food, rent, children's education, healthcare, electricity, transportation, and other basic necessities. The list goes on.
In fact, even a bank manager in Nigeria earning ₦1 million monthly could still struggle to maintain a decent standard of living after covering these basic expenses.
This is one reason poverty is so widespread in Nigeria. The cost of basic living is simply too high relative to what the average person earns.
You don't just have an income problem in Nigeria. You have an affordability problem.
For millions of Nigerians, simply living a decent life has become too expensive and increasingly impossible.
‘God Save Me’.
That was the graffiti (pictured below) imprinted on a car by an unknown African migrant held hostage at a trafficking house in Ghut Shaal, Janzur, in north-western Libya.
In truth, only God can save any migrant who gets stuck in Libya after abandonment by heartless Libyan traffickers and kidnappers or arrest and detention by the police. But the mortal that I only am, I am determined to save as many migrants as possible from asking God to save them after embarking on an ill-advised trip to Libya.
Therefore, starting tomorrow and for the next 20 days, I’ll be on a campaign of short videos enlightening the public on why they should steer clear of Libya. These videos will be on all social media platforms, but my primary targets are Tiktok and Facebook, where traffickers often hoodwink unsuspecting youth with fake promises of a better life.
For the first 10 days, my messages will be released in English (morning) and Pidgin (evening).
The final 10 days will be made in Hausa (morning), Igbo (afternoon) and Yoruba (evening), consequently eliminating language barriers among subliterates and illiterates, who constitute the prime target groups of traffickers.
I know some will only learn by experience and will proceed to Libya regardless of advisories to the contrary, but I also know many would stay put in Nigeria if they had access to credible information.
Migrants like ‘Para’ and Samuel who told me “I wouldn’t have come if I knew I would suffer this much”, those are my targets. So help me God!
You young people in your 20s that are supporting this APC government are very foolish.
And I am not sorry to say it.
Under the OBJ and GEJ administration, young people like us then could get married and start raising our family before we turned 30.
But I put it to you that, most of you are afraid to start a family because you know that you're poor.
You can't even buy a car a rent a decent apartment unless you steal or prostitute.
You think this is life?
Do not allow the older people who are pushing you or brainwashing you to support APC to deceive you.
They had it better.
But because of what they're gaining from this evil government, they keep telling you lies.
You need to fight for your future because it's bleak.
You're 28, a graduate and you're either jobless or underemployed.
Shun religious or tribal bigotry and take back your country from these evil leaders.
They're destroying your future.
Think! Think! Think!
You're busy insulting people who challenge the government because they are paying you 5k or 20k.
You're a fool.
A big fool.
AJD.
A man whose entire life is shrowded in mystery cannot be competent.
A man who boasted that he's richer than a state cannot be competent.
A man who has no school mate to identify him, cannot be called competent.
A man whose academic records are questionable, is incompetent.
From 2015 to 2025, under APC, Nigeria’s economy collapsed: the dollar rose from ₦197 to ₦1500, petrol from ₦87 to ₦1300, rice from ₦8,000 to ₦65,000, and external debt from $9.7b to $100b.
Poverty deepened, unemployment soared, and GDP shrank, turning Nigeria into the poverty capital of the world.
Your vote will decide whether this continues.
Remember my friend I told y’all about that fell terribly sick in 2015? The one that the three hospitals we went to couldn’t diagnose him, and eventually a cab driver took us to a woman in Ogun State that gave him some herb to drink, and after a deep sleep became well?
They have struck again, and this time harder. And guess what?
We can't find the woman again.
His brother that stays in Lagos, who also went with us that day, has been in Ogun State since yesterday trying to locate the woman.
But the entire place looks different now. Nobody seems to know her.
This is a personal appeal 🙏
If you know a woman around Ijebu-Ode who treats people with herbs and leaves, please kindly reach out to me.
We really need to find this woman.
I received this DM from a concerned girlfriend and I feel an obligation to share.
If you are able to help or weigh in, please do.
If you can't, please share on your timeline for anyone who is able to. 🙏
@Tommtalent@Stankriss042@tomiakporoghene@FinPlanKaluAja1 The way the likes of you defend the impunity being meted out to you by the govt is alarming
This is exactly what the original post was talking about... imagine a taxpayer making excuses for why his tax isn't being put to good use! Tueh
I want to be fair to @PeterPsquare . He is not wrong that French opens doors Igbo does not. He is not wrong that parents get to decide how they raise their own children. But I guess he underestimates the fact that he is not just any parent. P-Square is a name millions of Igbo people grew up admiring, their success made them proud to be who they are. People all over the world sang their songs using Igbo words. So when a voice like that says Igbo is not worth passing on, it does not land like one man’s private choice. It gives permission for a belief a lot of people were already quietly carrying, that English and French, in short anything foreign, sits above Igbo, that their native language is something to graduate out of rather than something to hold onto.
I am not Igbo. I am Swiss. But my husband made it clear from the beginning that our children would speak Igbo, and I have never once seen that as a burden or a complication. Our children speak Swiss German, English, and Igbo at home, German at school, and now French as well, since that is part of their school curriculum too. Five languages, and none of them fighting each other for space. That is the part people forget when they frame this as a choice. Children do not need to pick one language to be strong in. They can navigate several at once, easily.
It is adults who turn language into a competition. Children just absorb what is spoken to them and grow fluent in all of it.
A language is not only a tool for getting ahead. It is also a rooting tool, the place where love, memory, and belonging live. It is the specific way a grandmother scolds you and forgives you in the same breath. It is a joke that only works in the original. Lose the language, and you do not just lose a skill. You lose a room in your own house, one you can still visit as a guest but never quite live in again. That is what worries me most in this conversation. A child who cannot speak their father’s or mother’s language will, at some point, stand in that homeland and feel like a stranger. Not unwelcome, not unloved, just outside something that was supposed to be theirs by birth.
One day, my sons will be handed a kola nut, and in that moment, no one should have to do it for them. They should know how to receive it, how to speak over it, how to break it themselves, not pass it along to someone else because they never learned the words or the meaning behind them. That is such a small moment, and yet it says everything. It is the difference between being someone’s guest and being someone’s own.
So when I hear “Igbo is useless,” what I actually hear is a wound that has not healed.
From the outside, I have watched how often English or French get treated as the languages worth keeping, while Igbo gets treated as the one you can afford to let go of. That preference did not come from nowhere. It is a colonial hierarchy that convinced generations of people that closeness to their own culture was a limitation rather than a foundation. I don’t say this to shame anyone, least of all a man raising his own family the best way he knows how. I say it because the people who shape how we see ourselves carry a weight beyond their own households, whether they asked for it or not.
My hope is simple. That we stop treating our children’s languages as a competition with only one winner. That we let them have both the world and their roots, and trust that they are capable of holding both without ever having to choose.
Now that the World Cup is over, let's focus on humanity. Mr Kingsley has been battling kidney failure for 2 years now. We have raised N1.1m for him
Let's contribute what we can. Raise am 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I think it high time @nikitabier and @elonmusk tells us their true intent for Africa, you can't have a business and then treat your customers anyhow. This app appreciates absolutely no one from Africa, especially Nigeria. If you think you make enough money from your dearest Americans then take Africa off your business and tell me how well you're doing
Everytime it's payout week or day your boy Nikita begins to pause or suspend people with flimsy excuses that hold no water, these creators subscribe monthly with their money, spend time day in day out, Africa are the most active on your business the least you can do is treat us right and not like some lowlife.
You want to be like YouTube yet you're overdoing it, there's a lot failure in your system. You can't pause or suspend an account without a warning, one should get at least 3 strikes with exact reason for the strike so they can make corrections.
Your behaviour is as that of a ponzi scheme, you're taking from us, giving back peanut yet deliberately pausing and suspending so you don't payout those account rather keep it to yourself
ELON MUSK, DO BETTER!
A naked women was found dead in a high ranking member of society’s house and everyone including the Nigerian media has been silent
Imagine you heard that a lady who slept in my house died overnight, we all know I will be in Police custody by tomorrow morning even if it were natural causes.
There must be rule of law.
Rule of law is what makes us above 4 legged creatures in the animal kingdom.
Nigeria is not a zoo where animals do whatever they want any to do.
Few things I do that most people will have a hard time doing:
• I work out 4-5x a week at the gym.
• I don’t eat breakfast. My first meal of the day is between 12-2pm daily.
• I mostly eat one meal per day or max, two meals. My second meal is usually between 5-7pm.
• I go for long evening walks on days I don’t go to the gym.
• I don’t eat bread, noodles, hotdog.
• I don’t eat eba.
• I don’t eat moi-moi, or akara, and I rarely eat beans. all three give me Diarrhea.
• I don’t drink alcohol, or soda. Only water and fruits.
• Groundnut, cashew nuts, peanuts, meat pie and buns are the snacks I eat obsessively.
• And I can eat watermelon 7 days a week.
