LIES, PROPAGANDA AND DISINFORMATION WILL NOT SAVE THE COLOURLESS TINUBU ADMINISTRATION

We have taken note of another desperate attempt to manufacture controversy around Peter Obi by attributing to him a statement he never made.

A report circulating in some quarters falsely claimed that Mr. Peter Obi said Nigerian soldiers should reject salary increases until after the 2027 elections. He said no such thing.

Mr. Obi has expressly disowned the claim, describing it as entirely untrue. The facts are straightforward: Peter Obi has consistently advocated better welfare, adequate equipment, improved motivation and greater protection for Nigeria’s security personnel. To suggest otherwise is not a misunderstanding. It is a deliberate distortion of his position.

This latest episode exposes the increasingly hollow nature of the propaganda being deployed by henchmen and defenders of the Tinubu administration. Faced with a government struggling to explain its record to Nigerians, its propagandists appear to have settled for the easier task of manufacturing imaginary statements and assigning them to Peter Obi.

But Nigerians are wiser.

Peter Obi’s position on the welfare of Nigeria’s armed forces has never been ambiguous. He has repeatedly expressed concern about the conditions under which our soldiers operate and has questioned the shameful circumstances in which soldiers defending the country have been left exposed to avoidable danger.

His concern became particularly poignant following the loss of soldiers to insurgents amid questions over delayed rescue efforts. The fundamental question remains: how can a country expect its soldiers to defend its citizens when the same country fails to adequately protect its soldiers?

That is the conversation the Tinubu administration and its online propaganda machinery should be having.

Instead of confronting the real issues affecting Nigeria’s security forces, the focus is repeatedly shifted towards manufacturing controversies around Peter Obi. But Nigerians deserve better than political distractions. They deserve a government capable of defending its record with facts rather than attempting to discredit its critics with falsehoods.

Peter Obi has stated clearly that, under his leadership, the welfare, resources, safety and honour of Nigeria’s security personnel will be treated as a national priority.

Nigeria needs a government that respects the men and women who carry the nation’s security burden, equips them properly, pays them adequately and, most importantly, does not abandon them when they are in mortal danger.

The Tinubu administration and its defenders should therefore stop hiding behind propaganda.

If the government has performed, Nigerians should be shown the performance. If it has improved the welfare of soldiers, let the figures and facts speak. If it has adequately equipped the military, let Nigerians see the results. If it has defeated insecurity, let the security situation across the country demonstrate it.

But manufacturing statements that Peter Obi never made is not governance.

It is political desperation.

The Peter Obi Media Organization therefore calls on journalists, media organisations, political commentators and Nigerians generally to verify every statement attributed to Peter Obi before publishing, broadcasting or sharing it. His official statements and established communication channels remain the appropriate reference points.

Those who deliberately fabricate or distort his words should also understand that political propaganda has consequences. They may succeed in generating social-media outrage for a few hours, but they cannot permanently manufacture facts or erase the lived reality of Nigerians.
