EMERGENCY PRESS BRIEFING

Gentlemen of the press,

I call you today for a briefing on two major developments on the Osun political landscape.

We have credible reports that a police signal has arrived in Osun directing immediate arrest of Accord Party leaders. We also know the directive includes that they should be taken to Abuja immediately and should not be released until Monday.

I have spoken to the Inspector General of Police about the reported directive to arrest Accord Party leaders. But I am appealing to him that this development, if true, is illegal, and presents Nigeria as a lawless country. Arresting Accord Party leaders on the eve of an election amounts to police helping and assisting the APC to rig the election.

I task the IGP to issue a statement to assure Nigerians that no order has been given to arrest Accord Party leaders in Osun State. It is illegal and a threat to democracy for Accord Party leaders to be arrested on the eve of an election on trumped up charges.

It is disturbing that we still have over 62 Accord Party leaders held in illegal police detention without any charges against them. This is not democracy.

The second issue has to do with the viral video of a serving senator, Francis Fadahunsi who today called for the killing of Accord Party leaders and their families. In the video, the Senator even threatened that where they cannot get Accord Party leaders, they should kill their wives and children.

This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat that requires the attention of Mr President through the office of the National Security Adviser. I have raised this issue with the IGP and demanded for the immediate investigation and arrest of Senator Fadahunsi. The IGP has confirmed the video and assured of immediate action.

We request that the the IGP should stop the illegal operations of IRT, a team that has been arresting Accord Party leaders across the local governments for no just reason;

We ask that the police and the DSS immediately arrest Senator Fadahunsi for his incitement to genocide against the people of Ijesahland and Osun state. This is to prove to the world that Nigeria is a state governed by the rule of law.

We demand that the IGP enforce due process and fair policing by aborting all anti-people plots against democracy in Osun state.

We finally request that the police and other security agencies should act in line with the rule of law and their oath of office before, during and after these coming elections.

PRESS STATEMENT

ADELEKE CAMPAIGN CALLS FOR ARREST OF SENATOR FADAHUNSI OVER THREAT TO KILL ACCORD MEMBERS, VOWS TO HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY VIOLENCE

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) is gravely alarmed and disturbed by a trending video of the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, where hew was seeing and heard inciting members of the APC to kill our party members and supporters wherever they are found in Ijeshaland.

The video which has been confirmed by several persons is a confirmation of the information we have gathered in the last couple of weeks as to the importation of thugs, hoodlums and fake policemen into Ilase, the hometown of the senator and some other towns of Obokun, Oriade, Ilesa East & West and Atakumosa East & West local Government.

This open incitement to kill by the senator coupled with the threat against the lives of family members of the Accord is to say the least despicable and stands condemnable. We equally note that in the same video, Senator Fadahunsi invoked the usual boast about federal might to threaten that even if members of our political party present their voters cards at the polling unit on Saturday, his thugs will prevent them from voting.

Coming from a serving member of the National Assembly who swore to uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we feel compelled to demand that the inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Security order the arrest of senator Fadahunsi and prosecute him in accordance with relevant laws of the Federation.

We equally demand that all security formations charged with the conduct of Saturday elections pay particular attention to the six local government in Ijeshaland in order to protect the lives of our party members and every other law-abiding citizens who will come out to exercise their franchise.

We also demand that security agencies flush out armed thugs and fake policemen whom we are reliable informed have quarted in Ilase Ijesha and several other parts of Ijesha land by the senator representing Osun Senatorial district.
Let it be on record that as a party, we will hold Senator Ade Francis Fadahunsi responsible for any act of violence against any member of accord in Ijeshaland and indeed in other parts of the State and we will take all lawful steps to make senator Fadahunsi to account for any acts of killing and violence in accordance with local and internation law

The attention of the Inspector General of Police is equally drawn to operations of the IRT unit who Senator Fadahunsi had boasted severally of using to harass, intimidate and arrest leaders of the Accord. It is indeed on record that one of the aides of Senator Fadahunsi named ASP Wemimo had been the one leading IRT personnel to the homes of Accord party leaders in Ijeshaland in the past weeks. Our House of Reps candidate, Alaba Popoola who was abducted by this team on the instructions of Fadahunsi has still not been released by the Police.

While urging all law abiding citizens in Ijeshaland to remain peaceful and law abiding, we wish to charge them to defy the threat by Senator Fadahunsi and go out enmass to vote their party of choice in the state Governorship Election holding on Saturday

A CALL TO KILL CANNOT BE POLITICS

The words of Senator Francis Fadahunsi in this video are deeply disturbing. What is even more disturbing is the boldness with which those words were uttered publicly, with an apparent disregard for their gravity and possible consequences.

Senator Fadahunsi is from Obokun State Constituency. The people being spoken about are our people. They are fathers, mothers, sons and daughters whose only “offence” is making a political choice.

Not even the life of an APC member should be lost because of politics. No political ambition is worth the blood of anybody.

I call on the Inspector General of Police and all relevant security agencies to act immediately. For once, let us demonstrate that there is law and order in this country, if only for the protection of innocent lives.

Political offices will come and go. Elections will be won and lost. But a life taken can never be returned.

August 15 is an election, not a war. Nobody should die because of politics. Nobody.

Let the people vote. Let the people decide.
