The birth and commencement of The Chess League Ibadan @chessleague_ib in February 2020 impacted significantly on grassroot development of the game in Oyo state #Nigeria . The maiden edition ended on a successful note. Looking forward to better editions. @dr_doex@FIDE_chess
Happy to announce that we @chessinslums have been selected as one of the 7 winners of the world bank youth innovation fund.
Our proposal centered on designing and implementing a Chess and STEM project for secondary school students in low income communities. The grant will help us expand that vision through our Innovation Hub in Yaba.
My deepest gratitude to Precious Oziegbe, Evangeline Inyang, and Levon Gyozalyan (World bank colleagues) for believing in our work and championing it all the way to the final presentation in Washington, D.C. It was nerve wrecking even for me just watching virtually whilst they gave an awe inspiring final presentation.
None of this would have been possible without their conviction and support.
It took us two years of failed applications and due diligence before making the final selection this year. A reminder to never give up despite rejection.
It possible to do great things from a small place. This is Day 1

🏆 HISTORY MADE!
Eyetonghan Denyefa Callistus becomes the first-ever Nigerian player to qualify for the Esports Nations Cup (ENC) Chess Grand Finals.
One of only 9 African players advancing to the global stage. 🇳🇬♟️
About a week ago I qualified to rep my dear Nigeria at the 48th World chess Olympiad in September this year. This qualification is very special to me cos I'll be playing alongside my son and chess wiz Ekunke Goodness (14yrs).
In chess, you can’t force your opponent to play badly. You can only create conditions that make it hard for them to play well.💜💜💜
Life is the same…..
You can’t control what people do to you. But you can control the position you put yourself in.
So yes, your situation might be hard.
People might have done you wrong.
That’s real. But at some point you have to stop replaying the hurt and start making moves.
Build a position they can’t touch.💜
Happy New Month! ♟️✨
As we step into June, may every move you make lead you closer to your goals.
Like a king standing tall amidst every challenge, may you rise above obstacles, embrace new opportunities, and achieve greater victories.❤️
