Just because humans can take it doesn't mean you should give it to animals.
1. Moderate amounts of kola nuts and coffee (caffeine/theobromine) will not harm a human but can kill a dog (or cause severe seizures and heart issues even in small amounts).
2. A tablet of paracetamol (acetaminophen/Tylenol) will not harm a human but can kill a cat. Cats lack the enzymes to break it down, leading to liver failure or red blood cell damage.
3. A tablet of diclofenac will not kill a human but can kill a vulture (causes rapid kidney failure). This drug wiped out millions of vultures in India when used in livestock carcasses.
4. Chocolate (especially dark or baking chocolate) is safe for humans in moderation but toxic to dogs, cats, and ferrets. Theobromine builds up in their system and can cause vomiting, seizures, heart failure, or death.
5. Grapes or raisins (even a few) are fine for humans but can cause sudden, irreversible kidney failure in dogs.
6. Onions or garlic (raw, cooked, or in powder form) wonโt significantly harm humans but destroy red blood cells in dogs and cats, causing anemia.
7. Xylitol (common in sugar-free gum, candy, toothpaste, and baked goods) is harmless to humans but causes dangerous drops in blood sugar and liver failure in dogs.
8. Avocado (fruit, leaves, pit, skin) is nutritious for humans but contains persin, which is highly toxic to birds, rabbits, horses, and some other animals โ can lead to heart damage or death.
9. Alcohol (in drinks or foods) is tolerable for adult humans but can severely depress the nervous system and kill dogs and cats in small amounts.
10. Ibuprofen or other NSAIDs (like naproxen) are standard painkillers for humans but even one tablet can cause stomach ulcers, bleeding, and kidney failure in dogs, cats, or birds.
11. Macadamia nuts are safe for humans but can cause weakness, tremors, vomiting, and high body temperature in dogs.
12. Lilies (any part of the plant) are beautiful and harmless to humans but extremely toxic to cats โ even licking pollen or drinking vase water can cause fatal kidney failure.
13. Raw yeast dough can rise in a dogโs stomach, causing painful bloating and gas that turns into alcohol poisoning.
14. Hops (used in beer brewing) are safe for humans but highly toxic to dogs and can cause malignant hyperthermia (dangerously high body temperature) and death.
15. Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) tastes sweet and is sometimes ingested by curious animals. Humans can handle small accidental exposure with prompt treatment, but it causes rapid kidney failure and death in dogs and cats.
16. If youโve come this far, retweet so more people can learn and protect the animals around them.
