As part of the project aimed at advancing the principles and practices of Agroecology, including facilitating the drafting of its policies, the CAPPA team visited the Osun State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security on 12 May 2026.
The meeting, which was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and Directors of key departments, including Agricultural Services, Forestry, and Climate Change, among others, secured the State Government’s commitment to consider a draft Agroecology Policy. The State also assured us of its human capital and technical expertise as we commence the process.
This marks an important step in our collective quest to rescue our food system from corporate profiteers and return control of it to the people.

A milestone, if you like. @CAPPAfrica was present at the commissioning of the Plastic Recycling Microplant at Nile University of Nigeria Abuja, under the French Embassy Fund (FEF) Plastic Waste Processing Project.
Encouraging to see support growing towards tackling plastic pollution, with institutions providing facilities for implementation and possible scale-up but beyond waste management, initiatives like this should drive research, economic opportunities, and stronger environmental responsibility.
While commendable, more attention must also be paid to the fossil fuel industry that continue to drive plastic production, as well as to the state’s inadequate response to the plastic crisis.
A laudable step, but much more can and should be done.
VICTORY IN IBADAN!
After an eight-month legal battle, the Federal High Court, Ibadan Division, has today ordered the immediate reinstatement of Ayodele Aduwo and Mide Gbadegesin of the University of Ibadan, affirming their constitutional rights to freedom of expression and thought, and quashing their unlawful suspension.
The court found that the punishment imposed on the students by the university management and its disciplinary committee was unjust, unlawful, and contrary to both the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the principles of natural justice.
It also rejected all forms of victimisation linked to their peaceful expression, including the targeting of Ayodele Aduwo, Mide Gbadegesin, and Nice Linus for holding placards reading “No To Fee Hike” during a student gathering.
At Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA), we are extremely pleased with this judicial rebuke of repression on campus and are proud to have provided legal support and stood in solidarity with these brave students throughout the struggle.

Last Tuesday, the CAPPA team visited Abereke Community in Mahin Kingdom, Ilaje LGA of Ondo State, to document the impacts of environmental degradation as part of our strategic engagements with frontline communities.
What we found was deeply concerning: oil pollution, declining fish populations, submerged land, collapsed infrastructure, and threatened livelihoods. Women, who form the backbone of the local economy, are among the hardest hit, facing rising poverty and limited access to clean water, healthcare, and even basic education for their children and wards. Even more disturbing, their long-standing pleas to the government have been repeatedly ignored.
We stand with this resilient community to demand accountability, environmental restoration, and sustainable support. We call for immediate clean-up efforts and an end to reckless extractive activities fueling this existential crisis.
Is climate change slowly pushing us toward the end of our world?
This Thursday at 6PM, join the conversation with @OlamideMartinss as we unpack the facts, the fears, and the future of our planet.
Who will survive if the climate crisis continues?

CAPPA’s Board Chair, Mr Auwal Rafsanjani (Executive Director, @cislacnigeria) visited our Head Office in Lagos.
He was warmly welcomed by the team led by our Assistant Executive Director, Zikorah Ibeh (@ZDooshima).
Rafsanjani is committed to our growth and passionate about positive change in our communities.
Once again, thank you, Mr Chairman.
The Alliance stresses that GMOs pose systemic risks to biodiversity, farmers’ livelihoods, and food sovereignty, while also threatening public health, as outlined in the 2024 recommendations to the House of Representatives.
At the National Assembly, we demanded a full regulatory review and precautionary measures before any further commercialization.

Led by @EcoHomef, @CAPPAfrica (Assoc. Director Climate Change @OlamideMartinss) joined the GMO-Free Nigeria Alliance in Abuja, calling for the immediate suspension of GMOs until comprehensive biosafety evaluations and governance audits are completed.
Without strategic investment, Nigeria’s disease burden will intensify. The Senate’s Sustainable Health Financing proposal will optimize existing #SSBTax revenue to finance critical health programs and infrastructure, rather than creating new fiscal obligations.

I have seen firsthand how glaciers are melting as global temperatures rise.
Glaciers may be retreating – but we cannot.
Mountains and glaciers are essential for our fresh water, food & livelihoods - and protecting them is critical for our planet & our future.
#MountainDay
The march echoed with symbols of resistance from banners declaring “Our land is not for sale” to a mock funeral for coal, oil and gas.
Amid music, drums and art, one message united everyone: we need system change, not empty promises.
We marched because the world cannot achieve climate justice without frontline communities, without real finance, and without ending the violence against the Amazon and its people.
Another world is possible and we will keep pushing until those in the Blue Zone hear us 👊🏻👊🏻 #COP30
At the ongoing #COP30, @CAPPAfrica joined others at the People’s Summit protest in Belém yesterday, standing with thousands of Indigenous groups, climate activists and communities demanding real climate justice.
From the vibrant streets to the powerful chants, the call was clear: protect the Amazon, uphold Indigenous land rights, phase out fossil fuels, and stop the politics that put profit over people.
To achieve climate solutions, we must start with the soil. At a time when global emissions are surging, it’s critical to adopt solutions that reduce emissions and strengthen agricultural resilience, and agroecology does exactly that. #SupportAgroecology#FoodSovereignty#BanGMOs
Join us this Friday on an X-Space as our Executive Director, @bodufemi, speaks on Salt, Labels & Public Health: Shaping Conversations for a Healthy Food Environment, organised by @NhedNigeria.
