Visibility made me lazy (in the best way)

Since my UI/UX career started years ago, I can count on one hand how many times I've applied for a job.

To be precise, about 3 times.

Every other role, full-time, contract, freelance, came from clients reaching out to me. LinkedIn. X. Instagram. Behance. They found me.

Because of this, I never bothered finishing my personal portfolio website.

Why would I? The work kept coming without it.

But last week, I finished a contract and decided I'd actually apply for something new. So I started building my portfolio.

And then... gbam.

Another client slid into my DMs asking me to design a fintech app.

Like guys, can you give me some space to be unemployed for five minutes so I can finish my portfolio? 😂

Just kidding. I love it here.

But here's the actual lesson beneath the humor:

Visibility changes everything.

When you consistently show up, share your work, and build a presence, opportunities chase you. You stop applying for jobs and start choosing between offers.

Your online presence becomes your portfolio, your resume, and your sales team, all working 24/7 while you sleep.

So while I joke about being "too visible" to finish my portfolio, the truth is, this is the position every designer should aim for.

Build your visibility. Share your work relentlessly. Make it so people can't ignore you.

Then you'll have my problem, too much work to finish your portfolio. 😅

(I promise I'll actually finish it this time.)
