@jsrioux@mattgurney That can be true in some areas, like recognition of professional/academic credentials. In interprovincial trade, it is more often local businesses and their lobbying orgs working to protect against competition. It’s not ‘progs vs cons’, it’s ‘in vs out’
@mattgurney Ukraine should be supported robustly. Though there is more that can be done, Ukraine receives far more material and political support from the west than Palestinians do. One can only assume this, and the fact that Ukraine is not being blockaded, might be relevant to a flotilla
@ArfinNathaniel A key problem here is an assumption of uniformity. Because some south Asian voters may have been involved in irregularities it does not follow that all were. Even if you accept the methodological premise, it does nothing to discount impropriety among some parts of larger groups
@andrew_leach@jengerson It’s both. In this case, the legislative action that affected the mandate/authorities of EA delayed the investigation that’s required to determine whether and to what extent the Act was violated.
@mattgurney The US may eventually discover that people in other countries also have pride and agency, but there don’t seem to be signs of it happening anytime soon.
@mattgurney Quality example of someone not agreeing with a point, not having a convincing argument against and instead looking to shut down the discussion instead. Gonna try this next time I want nachos for the shared app and everyone else wants a healthy spinach dip.
@brianstelter Failing to notice and say true things is not objectivity. Downplaying Republican malfeasance to create a false sense of balance isn’t impartiality. Splitting the difference between the truth and a lie is simply a slightly different lie.
@mattgurney Connective tissue seems to be the need not just to be right, but to prove to others they were right all along, to get them to admit it. Would they rather try to win the argument or win the election?
@mattgurney Real risk that they have a deep need to finally beat Trudeau. I understand ‘Just like Justin’ as a slogan, but the two men are obviously profoundly different in their resumes, personal style, etc. They still want to run the campaign they crafted lovingly to defeat yesterday’s man
@xriskology A boulder as a metaphor for human civilization is a strange - and telling - choice. This sees civilization as a lifeless burden that needs to be dragged where they want it to go instead of a living, nurturing, beautiful environment in which human beings can thrive.
@mattgurney The cognitive dissonance of Liberals being unable to see any appeal or effectiveness from Poilievre mostly reminds me of 2014-15 Conservatives who hated Trudeau so much they couldn’t imagine his appeal to anyone else. Fatal blind spot unless it’s addressed.
@TheBillsGuys Could be that the Bills current staff is excellent at culture-building, roster development and other parts of coaching, but are consistently outclassed on gameday strategy by elite opponents.
