@Isarhexerl Morije wertes Frau Hexerl,
zieh mal den Vorhang zu und fange an, zur kleinen Arbeits-Kaffeepause, statt Tee, die (Badewannen-)Tasse auszuschlürfen...

The Völva was one of the most powerful women in Norse society.
She was not a goddess. She was a seer, spirit worker, and practitioner of seiðr, a form of Norse magic connected to prophecy, fate, trance, ancestral knowledge, and influencing unseen forces. Her title means “staff bearer,” named after the ritual staff she carried as both symbol and tool of authority.
Unlike later ideas of witches working in secret, the Völva could hold enormous status. Chieftains invited her into halls, offered gifts, and asked her to speak on harvests, journeys, war, illness, and destiny.
One of the most famous examples appears in the Saga of Erik the Red. A Völva arrives wearing blue robes, animal fur, gloves, and carrying a decorated staff. Women gather around her and sing sacred songs to help her enter trance. Only after ritual preparation does she begin revealing what she sees.
Their magic was called seiðr.
It was associated with prophecy, spirit travel, altered states, weaving fate, and moving between worlds. Norse mythology even claims Freyja taught seiðr to the gods themselves, and later Odin learned it despite criticism, since this kind of magic was viewed as crossing traditional social boundaries.
The Völva occupied a liminal position.
Respected.
Needed.
Sometimes feared.
She stood between community and mystery, speaking truths people wanted and truths they wished were wrong.
In modern witchcraft, the Völva has become a symbol of intuition, ancestral wisdom, divination, sovereignty, and remembering forms of feminine spiritual authority that existed long before the word witch became an accusation.
The Völva’s power was never that she controlled fate.
It was that she looked directly at it and spoke anyway.
