We hope any party announcing new childcare places will also give central funds to run early language programmes in nurseries rather than waiting until reception. Children shouldn’t have to wait to have the best chance to learn to talk and understand words

All parties aiming to improve opportunities for children must prioritise tools and training for teachers and nurseries to identify and support speech and language challenges. Without support, these children are more at risk of offending in the future, but we can change this.
