UPDATE: Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I of the Tooro Kingdom launched the Measles-Rubella vaccination exercise on Thursday at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City.

The five-day exercise targets children aged 9 months to under 5 years. Nyabongo I urged parents to embrace the vaccination campaign and called on the media to publicize the exercise. #NTVNews

This evening, the new King of Tooro HM King Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma addressed a small gathering in Buheesi. He said he’s passionate about tourism, and he just can’t wait to serve.

Today, I joined Chairman Chris Kaijuka and the family for the funeral service of their son Kenneth Kaijuka Amooti, who tragically lost his life in the accident on Mubende along the Kampala–Fort Portal Road.

Kenneth lived a worthy life. He loved his family and was devoted to his children, some of whom were also involved in the tragic accident. I conveyed my deepest condolences to the family and thanked the police, army, first responders, and all those who worked tirelessly to rescue the children at the accident scene who were stuck in wreckage with a container on top for hours.

This tragedy, like many others along this road, is a painful reminder of the urgent need to address its dangerous condition. According to eyewitnesses, the accident was caused by a combination of factors, including the bad condition of the road and reckless driving by the driver of the trailer which fell on Kenneth’s car. Chairman Chris Kaijuka mentioned the issue during his speech at the funeral service. These concerns have also been voiced by many other people.

As government, we have listened to these concerns, particularly those raised by the people of Tooro. We recognize the frustration and pain caused by the delays in completing this road. H.E. @KagutaMuseveni has taken a keen interest in the matter, while the Minister of Works, @HonByamukama, has visited and issued deadlines for completion of the road to the contractor Energo Projekts. We ask for forgiveness for the delays. We acknowledge that government made mistakes that contributed to the prolonged completion of the project. The road was originally expected to be completed in 2024, but it faced several challenges and failures. These shortcomings have been addressed. The new deadline is April 2027. There should be no more delays.

Luckily enough, all the four children survived. I pray for their full and speedy recovery.

Rest in peace, Kenneth, and your driver of 15 years who was buried yesterday. My condolences once again to your families.
