#Bermondsey battle-axe Kate Southion passes away aged 79
When her granddaughter was denied a #school place Kate could not just go out collecting and somehow get a school built for her in the area - or could she?
RIP Kate

A BIG Step Forward for Play in England!
Earlier this week, a powerful parliamentary debate, led by @TomHayesBmouth, marked a pivotal moment in the national conversation about children’s play. This wasn’t just about playgrounds – it was a bold call to prioritise unstructured free play, adventure playgrounds, active play, and the vital contributions of Playworkers.
The debate reinforced what we’ve long known: play is essential for children’s wellbeing, development, and happiness. The debate builds on the momentum of @PlayEngland’s manifesto and the significant progress we’ve achieved, including the recognition of play in the updated National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
It was inspiring to see cross-party MP support for @PlayEngland’s call for play sufficiency legislation and a new National Play Strategy. This is a huge step forward for children across the country.
I’m looking forward to meeting with the @MHCLG Minister, @AlexJJNorris soon to build on this progress and press for the bold policy changes needed to give children their childhood back!
This achievement reflects the relentless advocacy of @PlayEngland and the many voices championing children’s right to play. Together, we’ve made a real impact.
Now, let’s keep the momentum going. Let’s keep pushing for a future where every child has the freedom to play!
