Skill that gets overlooked in beginner training: knowing what baseline log volume looks like so you notice when a source drops off unexpectedly. That instinct matters in a real SOC.
If your resume says 'studied networking concepts' instead of 'installed, configured, and troubleshot network hardware and software', that's the problem right there.
