Commercial satellite imagery is being limited over the Middle East, but don’t forget there’s a whole suite of free satellite tools that support analysis on current events.
Here’s a thread on some of those tools 👇
New video adds to the growing evidence that the U.S. hit an elementary school killing 175 people. It contradicts President Trump’s claim that Iran was responsible.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has found more journalists and media workers were killed in 2025 than any year since its records began 30 years ago (2024 was the previous record). Israel was responsible for two-thirds of deaths in both years https://t.co/zHddiLGSiH
Thanks for joining me on the show @OliveLineham. Look forward to seeing more of your work!
Watch Olive cover how the tactics and funding of #ICE have changed under Trump in the first episode of Sky News Explains 👉 https://t.co/IBOJvnLtnO
🗣️ "Canada. Turkey. Spain. ICE now has more money to spend than all of them."
Sky News Explains reporter @OliveLineham tells @SkyYaldaHakim how ICE is being reshaped by the massive cash boost it has received under Trump's administration.

Unbelievable that a man who spent US$75m on a film no-one wants to see about Melania Trump has just fired almost all the foreign correspondents on the newspaper he owns. You might think nothing was happening in this world. @JeffBezos@washingtonpost#SaveThePost
The Washington Post has just inexplicably laid off the entire Middle East team, along with most of the international staff. My heart goes out to all my beloved former colleagues. Anyone who’s hiring, there’s some incredibly talented correspondents now looking for work
This review of the videos of the ICE killing of a US citizen in Minnesota suggest that the victim was simply trying to leave and did not endanger anyone. ICE then refused to allow people to provide medical aid to the dying woman. And then the administration lied about it. https://t.co/gMZJr3yZOv
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected federal officials’ claims Wednesday that a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent acted in self-defense when he shot and killed a motorist.
Frey said he saw video of the shooting and called ICE’s explanation “bulls**t.”
Videos taken by bystanders that were posted to social media show an officer coming toward an SUV that was stopped across the middle of a snowy and icy road. As the officer attempted to open the driver’s side door, the car sped away in the general direction of a different officer who was standing in front of the SUV with his gun drawn. That officer, who was knocked backward but not hit, opened fire on the SUV. The car sped toward the curb, crashing into parked vehicles.
“This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed,” he said at a news conference.
Tricia McLaughlin, the Department of Homeland Security’s assistant secretary for public affairs, said in a statement that a motorist “weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them” during ICE operations in Minneapolis.
“An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots,” McLaughlin said. “He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.”
Fray said local officials have “dreaded this moment” since ICE began deploying officers to the city as part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdowns in American cities.
The mayor also said that while there was not much he could say to alleviate the situation, he had a message for ICE.
“Get the f*** out of Minneapolis,” he said.
NEW: ICE officers are trained to never approach a vehicle from the front and instead to approach in a “tactical L” 90-degree angle to prevent injury or cross-fire, a senior Department of Homeland Security official told @NBCNews@JuliaEAinsley

New story with updates on our ongoing project examining the fates of 55 of Assad's most brutal enforcers: luxury lives in Moscow and Dubai, sure, but also properties in Spain, small apartments in Damascus, and some stuck on tourist visas. And one arrest. https://t.co/5lv3xcyixH
