The African Union calls for urgent international intervention in Mali.

The African Union (AU) Commission on Sunday urged immediate international action in response to the deteriorating security situation in Mali, marked by a fuel blockade imposed by terrorist groups and a worsening humanitarian crisis for civilians.

In a statement issued from Addis Ababa, the AU expressed its “deep concern” over the escalating violence and strongly condemned the deliberate killing of innocent civilians, which has caused “deep suffering and heightened instability” in affected communities.

The Commission also denounced the recent abductions, including the kidnapping of three Egyptian nationals, and demanded their “immediate and unconditional release.” It stressed that kidnapping and attacks on non-combatants constitute “unacceptable violations of human rights and international law.”

The African Union called for a coordinated international response to terrorism and violent extremism in the Sahel region, advocating for enhanced cooperation, intelligence sharing, and sustained support for countries facing these threats.

Finally, the Commission reaffirmed its solidarity with the government and people of Mali, as well as with the families of the victims, reiterating its commitment to peace, security, and development across the Sahel.

Breaking: First Death Reported in Garoua Post-Election Clashes

Tragedy has struck in Garoua as today’s violent demonstrations turned deadly, claiming the life of a young woman identified as Zouhaira.

According to reports from local witnesses, Zouhaira was fatally shot when security forces opened fire during clashes with civilians who had taken to the streets to celebrate Issa Tchiroma Bakary’s proclaimed victory in the October 12 presidential election.

The incident marks the first confirmed fatality in the ongoing unrest that has swept across parts of Cameroon amid tensions over the still-unannounced election results. Videos circulating online show heavy police deployment and the use of live ammunition and tear gas to disperse crowds.

Calls are growing for calm, restraint, and an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
