If this happens, it will be a very dark day for European security. Trump would be undermining the Ukrainian's defence, rewarding the aggressor, ripping up the Helsinki Final Act, creating a serious rift with European allies, severely compromising the deterrence value of NATO, and seriously weakening European security.

We must strive to end this war, but this is the most appallingly misguided way to go about it.

If he does indeed do this, we must conclude he's seriously incompetent, compromised by his own arrogance, pursuing his own personal business agenda at the cost of European peace, mad, or a Russian asset or, perhaps, a combination of any or all these.
