A civil servant who was never bothered about who governs becomes suddenly interested in mobilizing her own kids.
Kid you not, Imole is Loved in Oshun,
And Adeleke would return.
Osun 2027: My Take.
I’ve been watching the Osun conversation closely, and one thing remains clear no matter how much noise is made from different camps: Yes, APC is the party at the centre. Yes, they have federal power, structure, and resources behind them. That is not in dispute and only a dishonest person will pretend otherwise. But you still cannot dismiss the reality on the ground in Osun: Governor Adeleke remains the more popular candidate in the state.
Incumbency plays a role, of course, but it is not the full story. The man has built a personal connection with a significant portion of the electorate that goes beyond party labels and political calculations in Abuja. We saw his outing during the 2023 election and how he delivered his state for PDP despite having a strong Southern candidate, who eventually emerged.
What genuinely shocked me recently was his interview. For a long time I held the same popular opinion many people had that he was not particularly eloquent, that he struggled to put a coherent sentence together without difficulty. That perception was widespread and, quite frankly, I shared it. Watching him speak with clarity, structure, and composure forced me to adjust.
You can disagree with his politics, question his performance, or prefer another candidate entirely, but the idea that he cannot articulate himself properly is no longer tenable. Credit must be given where it is due.
Politics is not played only in Abuja. At the end of the day, Osun people will decide based on what they feel on the streets, in their local governments, and in their personal assessment of the man they already know. Federal power is real and it matters, but local popularity still counts for something in a state election. That is the honest reading of the race as it stands.
That said, the reports of violence and attacks by political thugs from different sides must be immediately attended to. Security agencies cannot afford to look the other way or treat any side with kid gloves. Every incident must be investigated and those responsible held accountable without fear or favour.
Regardless of who eventually wins, it must be clear to everyone that all parties operated on an equal playing ground. Anything short of that will only deepen suspicion and rob the process of the legitimacy it needs. The people of Osun deserve a peaceful election, not a contest decided by intimidation or power at the top.
