There would be many. But here's some of the most important.

1. Find the right technology or language for a problem. You wouldn't use a screwdriver to hammer a nail.

2. Be obsessed with writing efficient code. The saying, "perfection has been attained, not when there is nothing else to add, but when there is nothing else to take away" is my favorite quote about coding.

3. Remember that knowing the syntax of a language doesn't really, truly make you a developer. Just because someone knows a few chords doesn't really mean that they are a proficient musician.

To be an expert coder, it is all about getting used to designing, understanding and improving on program flow, understanding data structures and picking up on patterns in code.

If you can do those things, then you will be able to be an expert coder in any language.

4. No matter how much we love to code, we also need to exercise, go for walks in nature, spend time with friends and family, eat right, have a hobby, have fun and sometimes just veg in front of the TV. Believe me, this will make you a much better coder than if you just code all day, every day. Doing these things will unlock ideas in your mind like you can't believe.
