On this international day of the girl child, I choose to remember Ochanya Ogbanje, a girl who lost her life in 2018 at age 13 after being ràped for five straight years by her uncle and his son Andrew and Victor Ogbuja.
Ochanya developed a vesicovaginal fistula and was leaking urine and poop till she finally passed on on the 17th of October, 2018.
Today, a whole eight years later, her abusers walk as free men. The world might be silent about Ochanya’s case and getting her justice but we will never forget her story.
I wish to God that does men meet very horrible ends.
May Ochanya continue to rest in peace with God.
If a girl tells you beforehand that she doesn’t want sex, and you deceive her into coming over by assuring her it’s just a harmless visit, only to make sexual advances and pressure her into sex when she arrives, you are a rapist. Consent obtained through deception, pressure, or coercion is not consent
Happy International Day of the Girl Child.
On this day, I remember the girls in:
Afghanistan who can't go to school.
Congo being sold by her family.
Sudan being r4ped by rebels.
Nigeria being married at 16 in a mass wedding.
Gambia who gets FGM.
Which girl do you remember?💜

I never dodged reading out loud in class. I was praying the teacher would pick the longest paragraph so I could show off my vocabulary and pronunciation. 😭😭
