Grass Thatching!

First the grass is combed using a fork made of 5”-6” nails

Then the cleaned grass is tied using sisal ropes in bundles & then using fish strings are tied onto battens while packing them to the required roof thickness.

This is an aesthetic Art worth watching!

After closing the eaves, next step is to fix [by nailing] battens(purlins) onto the rafters.

As a preservative, we applied wood varnish onto these rafters & purlins(battens) both of which are got from Eucalyptus trees!

Once the roof pitch had been achieved by the rafters, next is to close the eaves with a brick wall from burnt clay bricks arrayed in a STRETCHER BOND!
