I recorded this about three months ago, a day before my graduation, trying to fit three years of university into one video. I could not help the wave of emotions that clouded me each time I pressed record. I wanted to tell the story and still feel normal. I hope this is normal enough.

The look on my face in the three-year video with the recruiter says, “God, this is finally happening.”

I’d like to call myself a very energetic young child, full of convictions that I cannot say were put there by nature or by the things around me. Perhaps that was my gift. Perhaps that was my uniqueness.

I have seen countless children like me - reaching for the moon, proactive, energetic, audacious, full of ideas, dreams and goals. Let’s not shut them down. Let their birds fly.

They will fly high. And, at some point, they will learn to build a nest for shelter, or perch on a tree to catch their breath. Let’s not stop them. I am happy I was allowed to fly.

And while I have found a place to lay my head, I still fly on. I am grateful for all I have done, and even more grateful that I was given the room to do it.

And, dear bird, do not forget the other birds you meet along the way. Find the ones who share your flying patterns. Fly with them. Fall, and make a lot of mistakes. You will identify what works and learn from them as you go.
