Northeast Syria is deeply concerning. The ceasefire must hold. Any security breakdown—especially at ISIS detention sites—risks international consequences. Kurds across Iraq and Syria are steadfast partners and should be treated as such. The world is much safer because of them. 🇺🇸

The recent tragic incident in Erbil occurred on the evening of Wednesday, August 6, 2025. At a gas station on the Erbil-Koya road, a dispute over spilled gasoline escalated. A station employee shot and killed two customers and a bystander. One victim was identified as Iraqi bodybuilding champion Hamoudi Riyad. The suspect was arrested.

Why the West May Support Kurs in Syria

Three strategic factors make the West (US + Britain + Europe + Israel) want to support the Kurds in Rojava:

1. The geopolitical factor/a large Turkey, thanks to Syria and northern Iraq, would threaten Israel, Europe, Jordan, and the Arabian Gulf. (This will make the West support the Kurds)

2. Religious factor: A Brotherhood-Salafi Islamic regime with jihadist Syria is a threat to Western civilization (this makes the West support the Kurds)

3. Energy and economic factors: If Turkey takes the Eastern part of Syria, it will take northern Iraq, an essential energy source (gas and oil). Parallel to that, Qatar wants to send its gas to Europe through Turkey because Turkey plans to become an energy hub for Europe and because energy is a strategic commodity. Israel wants to become that hub. Europe is afraid to hand over its energy fate to a “new Russia”! (This makes the West support the Kurds) in the Rojava.
