WE ARE SO BACK!!! High temperatures reach the upper 60s later today with mostly sunny skies, amazingly comfortable dew points and a light breeze. It is time to be extremely outside. The vibes have skyrocketed!!!
You have to stop treating it like a performance where you are trying to become the best version of yourself. It is not theatre. It is not self transformation day after day. You do it the way you brush your teeth. It is not about liking or disliking it. It is simply something you do.
The moment you frame working out as a heroic arc, you introduce emotion into it. Motivation, inspiration, identity, self judgment. That makes it unstable. Some days you will feel like the protagonist. Most days you will not.
But brushing your teeth requires no identity. No inspiration. No self analysis.
It is maintenance. When exercise becomes maintenance rather than self-improvement theatre, it becomes lighter. Less ego. Less pressure. Less evaluation.
The number of pushups won’t matter until you change how you see yourself.
If you see yourself as a lazy person, you’ll always quit. If you start to change who you are, and become someone who trains and doesn’t give up, that’s what matters.
Identity change requires action. It’s the proof for your mind that you are someone different than it thinks right now.
So start small. Prove to yourself that you’re someone who does 10 pushups and 10 squats right when you wake up every day.
You can grow from there, but first we have to change who you think you are.
A lot of people are playing a character they don't enjoy, and they think they're stuck that way forever because switching characters would be out of character
Consistency in the gym is almost entirely discipline based rather than motivation based. Some days I have motivation, most days I just operate off of the fact it’s my routine and something I know is good for me so I need to show up regardless of how much I’d rather go home and sit on the couch.
The people who say they can’t get to the gym because they just cannot bring themselves to show up need to understand that you will likely often not feel like showing up. People who are jacked to the gills often wanna be doing something else. It’s a choice you make to commit to something. If you operate off the idea that motivation must be present to tackle fitness goals, you will likely never attain them.
