Edos like every other Southern Ethnicity were sold into slavery. Slavery was not by ethnicity but by actions carried out by evil wealthy merchants. Today, Edo people are victims of Trans-West Africa-Libya-Europe human trafficking. Below is translation project of slaves names.
@SKaizen101@PhysicsFintech Absolutely nothing o! An ethnicity filled with unproductive cultists, flat land, no scenario, two managably farmable local government, culture thieves, nothing o! I can fight for Etche, Ndoki, Egbema and Ndoni. But Ikwerre, Ogba and Ahoada, nope.
You need to read more. Igbo were not the largest people taken into slavery from West & Central Africa. "Bight of Biafra" made it look like those who were sold from Bonny, Calabar & Nun rivers were only Igbos - a mislabelling happened. Yes, Igalas were sold into slavery too.
Cos our time has come to experience economic resurgence.
The road two second largest economy in Nigeria is hard, we have to work harder to clinch that position.
"No Edo person was sold into slavery"..... They deceive yourself! Your people are not as special as you think o. Slavery is not about ethnicity, na business for capturers! Even today's human trafficking happening to Edo people, can you deny it? Every ethnicity got sold!
Hi Omi,
For the sake of historical accuracy, recheck the data on the Louisiana Database, starting with the screenshots you shared.
To better understand, you can already see that the names aren’t either Ẹdo names or seemed like claimed Ẹdo names with gross errors. Ẹdo people were identified by their Iwu markings and were never sold regardless where they found themselves in the world, so far they bore the markings. This was a standard known globally to traders.
However, there were detailed reports from the same source you picked the data that:
1. Adults who attempted to bear Ẹdo names to claim being Ẹdo were sold, so far without the Iwu markings.
2. Some who claimed to be descendants or blood relatives of Ẹdo were sold because they had rebelled against Benin, wouldn’t wear the Iwu markings and the Benin Kings refused standing in for them.
3. The classification “Edo” on the database primarily indicates those who claimed to have been Ẹdo and those who were closely related to Ẹdo but both distinguished for not wearing the Iwu markings that traders feared as identification of true Ẹdo people.
Recall that Benin was the country and Ẹdo was the capital. Ẹdo was where the Kings resided and where ONLY the direct bloodlines of Ẹdo Kings, chiefs, priests, warriors, farm owners, and traders lived. All Adults here bore the Iwu Markings and used the coded family greetings (which is still in place till date).
Complex to really grasp but I hope this helps. No Ẹdo person was ever sold in slavery. It is not in the record of any documented Ẹdo family known since the first encounter of Europeans, and no report captures anyone with the Iwu Markings being sold in slavery (Iwu Markings being the sole identifier of an Ẹdo people to outsiders at the time).
Clear?🦇
@ancestorscry No, hinterland Igbos don’t need to prove anything to Riverine Igbos. That’s time has passed. Everybody should identify the way they want. We have done more than enough.
@nnukwuifenna@ancestorscry There is nothing special about that city to be honest. Built by proceeds from Enugu coal in the early 1900s and currently been sustained by oil revenue from oil proceed other Local Government. Very flat land with no scenic beauty. I wish Ndi SE appreciate what we have!
Ndi Igbo need to play around with our meals. We can't be boasting of earlier and 20th century recipes. We are blessed with food. We are umu Chi n'eke: we are born to create and recreate. How we became lazy culinary-wise this century is a mystery. Thank you for this!
As an Nsukka babe, I have been telling my sister that Okpa can’t be the only way to enjoy Bambara beans. I’ve bought the whole seeds, and I’ll be trying different recipes. I assume it’s buttery. I already know it fried. Don’t particularly like it, might need to improve it.
@ancestorscry@Eloka51 Telling us Igbo hinterland to "make other patriotic" is funny to me. So we must be "economically viable" to do that? Since China became econonically strong, has Taiwan aligned? Has Swiss/Austria done same to Germany? We can't force it anymore. Again, we have tried nwennem.
@ancestorscry@Eloka51 Of what use are resources to a nation if there are groups with the mindset of your people? The greatest resource of a nation lies in patriotism, unity & quality education. That is something hinterland Igbo is working on. I would rather be landlocked, than be unequally yoked ✌️
@nnukwuifenna@ancestorscry The other SS groups apart from Ikwerre are reasonable to some extent. The small power these ones got in Rivers beclouded their sense of judgement. They are using their bad experience with Aros to treat the rest of us badly. I dont fancy them in particular to be honest.
@Eloka51@ancestorscry This people literally call us a slur "Isoma" meanwhile many of their mama and grandmothers na "Isoma" them be. Anayway, like the Aros who denied being Igbo (now they are Oke Igbo) they will be devastatingly humbled btw 2030s -2050s. Watch they cling to Igbo identity fiercely. 😂
@Eloka51@ancestorscry Apart from farmland in Ikwerre & Emuoha, nothing o. No breath-taking landmass/mark nor access to the sea. The oil revenue for Obio Akpor is from Coys extracting from other LGAs. Culturally, nothing significant. Now their son Wike is about to bring Nzeogwu calamity to us! Nna ehh!
