We embarked on an inspection tour of the ongoing projects initiated by Gov. Ademola Adeleke @AAdeleke_01 in Ede town and the state capital, Osogbo.

Today, we were in the ancient city of Ile Ife, the home of my amiable deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi and several other members of the state executive council to continue the implementation of our administration’s Multi Billion Naira infrastructure plan with the official flag-off ceremony of the construction of flyover bridge at lagere junction, Ile Ife.

We recognize the significance of Ile Ife as the cradle of the Yoruba race which deserves a befitting and classical upliftment to enhance the tourism capital of this divine town. This project, when completed, will ease movement of traffic, facilitate connectivity and enhance economic activities between various towns and cities across this region.

It was also an opportunity to flag off the construction of about 60 KM of road construction in the 30 local governments and the area office across the state. This signals the commencement of the next stage of our developmental projects across all the local governments in the state.

I appreciate the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola; royal fathers and chiefs in Ile Ife and it’s environment and the entire people of Ife land for their support and prayers towards the success of our administration.

I warmly welcome the sons and daughters of Ile Ife, the cradle of the Yoruba race, to this epoch making event. I congratulate His Royal Majesty, the Ooni of Ife for having this landmark project under his watch.

Ile Ife is the source of the Yoruba race. I understand the deep level of infra deficit across the five local governments. Consequently, we decided as a government to address the challenges by applying a big view approach.

The infra deficit covers roads, health, water and schools. In the multi-billion naira agenda, we earmarked specific projects for this ancient city. Many are ongoing and more are still coming.

We were at Ilesa last week to flag off road dualisation. Today we are here to bring to reality the construction of a flyover bridge. This iconic bridge, the first of its kind in this land of the source.

The project location was justified on the ground of easing traffic, facilitating connectivity and attracting adjacent economic activities. Ile Ife deserves not only an infra upgrade but a classical upliftment to enhance the tourism capital of this divine town. This is what our government is launching today. We are on a match to greater height for Ile Ife and Osun State as a whole.

I want to use this platform to assure elders, sons and daughters of Ile Ife that our government is committed to solving the many developmental issues facing this city. We are applying phased project implementation strategies due to the huge infra deficit with attendant low funding capacity. We however assure all and sundry that our strategy will eventually fulfill the yearnings and aspirations of all our people.

Every year, on the 5th of May, when the nation pauses to honour the memory of our late President, His Excellency, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, I take some time to reflect on the memory of my friend.

Today, I remember what he stood for and how he worked towards it. I remember his focus on building strong institutions—so that the very DNA of our democracy would be founded on laws and best practices, not on the whims of men.

I also remember his unfinished work, and how we must all work together—regardless of where we stand—to actualize his dreams of a better Nigeria.

Today, as we honour the memory of my friend, my brother, and our former President, we thank him for his service to our nation. And we pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) will continue to grant him a place amongst the righteous ones in Al Jannah Firdaus.
