President Ramaphosa is seething in his letter to John Steenhuisen because they are negotiating in bad faith, and trying to force an agreement through the media. Reminds me of Mandela’s seething response to bad faith tactics by FW de Klerk during CODESA.

De Klerk had insisted on speaking last even though the original agreement was that Mandela would speak last. Madiba spoke first, the. Was followed by de Klerk who went on a tirade.

Mandela stood up to speak and they tried to stop as he went to the podium and he said he had to address a matter on national importance and then laid into de Klerk.

When Madiba was done, Chris Hani said to the people around him in isiXhosa, “Even I wouldn’t have put it like that. A soldier is a soldier.” Basically saying Madiba was still very militant.
