Presided over the launch of a school feeding programme at Osembo Comprehensive School in Bahati Ward, Bahati Sub-County, Nakuru County, implemented by Feeding Futures—a Partnership that provides sustainable school meals aimed at enhancing learning outcomes and improving retention in learning institutions. I was accompanied by the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Irene Njoki.
I commended Feeding Futures, chaired by Ms Vanessa Bennett, for promoting dignity, addressing deprivation, and instilling hope among pupils in our schools, including Sidai Primary School in Subukia and Mukinyai Primary School in Molo. I reaffirmed our commitment to working closely with Feeding Futures, with whom we have a five-year Memorandum of Understanding, to expand school feeding programmes and improve learning outcomes, enrolment, and pupil retention.
I outlined our Uji Programme, which has been successfully implemented in all 1,066 public ECDE centres across the county, benefiting 65,951 learners. I requested that Feeding Futures partner with the County Government to enhance nutritional diversity in school meals, expand kitchen infrastructure, and improve energy-efficient cooking technologies. So far, we have constructed 10 kitchens across the county, with five more currently under construction. In Bahati Sub-County alone, 2,445 learners from 46 ECDE centres are benefiting from the Uji Programme. Ms Bennett, while outlining their operations, commended the County Government for providing uji to all ECDE learners countywide.
I further highlighted our achievements in Early Childhood Education, including the construction & furnishing of ECDE classrooms with age-appropriate furniture, the installation of outdoor play equipment, fencing, the construction of toilets, and the installation of water tanks. Currently, 121 ECDE projects are ongoing across the county.
I also outlined key development projects being implemented in Bahati Ward across the sectors of water, infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, and trade. In response to requests from pupils, I committed to drilling a borehole at the school to ensure an uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water for both students and the surrounding community. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the socio-economic transformation of Nakuru County.
In attendance were Area MCA Hon Grace Mwathi and Nakuru County officials.
The second phase of the cabro pavement project in Gilgil town is nearing completion, with works along Police Line road leading to Gilgil Sub-county Hospital now at an advanced stage.
Drainage works have been completed as cabro paving continues with major sections already finished. Once complete, the project will improve road durability, enhance safety, and provide smoother access to essential services, further strengthening Gilgil as a model town for sustainable urban development in Nakuru County.

Today, I attended the Lands, Housing & Urban Development Committee of the Council of Governors where we deliberated on the implementation of key programs and projects in the sector, with a focus on the Affordable Housing Programme and the Second Kenya Urban Support Program.
We reaffirmed the critical role of County Governments in driving Kenya’s housing and urban transformation and made several key resolutions. These include ensuring that counties are funded as implementing agencies for Affordable Housing Projects, developing a joint framework for conditional grants on physical and social infrastructure, increasing allocations to County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committees, engaging counties in national investment planning, reviewing the Urban Areas and Cities Act, adopting a Private Sector Engagement Framework, and subjecting all Affordable Housing Projects to County development approvals in line with the law.
Together with the National Government and development partners, we remain committed to building a sustainable, resilient, prosperous, liveable, and equitable urban future for all.
I held a productive session with the Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds, chaired by Vihiga Senator Hon Godfrey Osotsi, at Bunge Towers in Nairobi.
The meeting focused on reviewing the operations and management of the Nakuru City Board, the municipalities within our county, and the three Water Service Providers (WSPs), as highlighted in the Auditor General’s Report for the Financial Year 2023/4. Our deliberations centred on strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce operational costs, improve service delivery, and support the sustainable expansion of services for the people of Nakuru County.
I assured the committee of Nakuru County’s commitment to financial prudence in the management of its agencies—many of which operate with a high degree of autonomy—through sound management practices and the adoption of innovative technologies aimed at expanding and improving the quality of services to our residents.
I was flanked by Finance CEC Stephen Njogu, Chief of Staff Peter Ketyenya, Nakuru City Manager Gitau Thabanja, the managing directors of the three WSPs, and municipal managers and board members.
Financial constraints should never kill the dreams of our learners in Nakuru County. Through bursaries and with plans to keep enhancing this kitty, we are making sure every child's dream has a chance to live and thrive.

Yesterday afternoon in the company of First Gentleman, Sam Mburu, we engaged with residents of Nakuru Town West, led by their MP, Hon. Samuel Arama, during a youth empowerment program aimed at uplifting livelihoods within the Sub-county.
As part of our ongoing efforts to create employment opportunities, we distributed car wash machines to benefit the youth by promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship.
Acknowledged the significant strides made by President William Ruto in advancing development across the country, including job creation through the Affordable Housing Programme, the construction of modern markets, and the planned dualling of the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway. The President’s development track record speaks for itself, and I called on residents to continue supporting his transformative agenda.
Reaffirmed my commitment to intensifying efforts toward enhancing urban development programs across Nakuru County. We were joined by MPs Irene Njoki (Bahati) and David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East), MCAs , and several other leaders.
Today, we officially kicked off the disbursement of the second tranche of the Nakuru County Bursary Fund for the Financial Year 2024/2025.
Our inaugural exercise was held at Langalanga Secondary School in Biashara Ward, Nakuru Town East Sub-county. We disbursed cheques for all 11 wards in Nakuru Town East and Nakuru Town West, with a combined bursary allocation of over Kshs. 74 million.
This second tranche totals Kshs. 287,772,781, and will support learners across all levels of education from universities and colleges to vocational centres, secondary schools, and special schools throughout Nakuru County.
