Twice now, at the unveiling of TEP and during last Friday’s media interview, Edwin Sifuna has shared our experts view, that achieving a balanced budget within the first 15 months of his presidency is possible. The experts are working on a roadmap to make this a reality. In simple terms, a balanced budget will mean a government living within its means.

If we can realistically collect 100 bob, we should plan to spend 100 bob. We cannot budget as though we will collect 150 bob, based on overly optimistic revenue projections, then borrow beyond what we had planned when the actual revenue falls short.

As Sifuna has outlined, the way to achieve a balanced budget is by cutting wastage, curbing corruption and prioritising what matters, not piling more taxes on an already struggling mwananchi.

What would this mean for ordinary mwananchi?

When government borrows less from local banks, it leaves more money available for businesses and ordinary Kenyans. Banks would have a stronger incentive to compete for these customers with more appealing loan packages. This could make borrowing more affordable, helping businesses expand, create jobs and ease pressure on household budgets.

Remember how during Mwai Kibaki’s presidency, banks became increasingly eager to lend to ordinary mwananchi? We used to call it hawking loans. Reduced government borrowing, lower interest rates and economic reforms helped create room for more lending to businesses and households.

That is the future we want for our country, where businesses thrive, mwananchi can access affordable credit and we gradually ease the burden of debt.

And that ladies and gentlemen is part of the agenda, alongside restoring constitutionalism and the rule of law, rescuing our healthcare system and fixing our education sector.

Together with @HonSenOsotsi and a team of Linda Mwananchi Comrades and Aspirants we were able to arrive at Kinoo Police station where we confirmed that Anyamah Wa Anyamah one of our supporters is okay I actually spoke to him briefly.

He is being transported to Kakamega. We have secured his cash bail upon arrival together with another blogger who was arrested called Teddy Kedambi on allegations of Cyber crime filed by Governor Barasa.-Kakamega Governor.

We have alerted our people in Kakamega to ensure they monitor his arrival and release.

Of importance to note is that the videos and pictures of Governor Barasa (you know the ones am talking about) originated from Kakamega but how they have choosen to arrest Vihiga influencers is still puzzling!

We continue to call upon police agencies to follow the law during arrests- Anyamah could have been summoned to present himself to the police station- That period he went quiet after being taken from his home was scary to his dear wife, family and friends.
