@BowesChay I've often asked for both menus at a Japanese restaurant and examined both. English for my non-Japanese-speaking guests, Japanese for me (because the English menu details are sometimes insufficient). I never noticed the price discrepancy before.
@mtracey@walterkirn [2] As regards the second quote above, you're saying that you did a deep dive into Walter's podcast content after you hooked up with Taibbi?
And the motivation for this was: you wanted to understand the hostility coming from some of Walter's podcast fans?
@mtracey@walterkirn [1]"I had honestly never listened to [the Kirn/Taibbi podcast] before joining."
"I hadn't realized Walter played such a powerful role in their lives as perspicacious sooth-sayer . . . or whatever the hell else you have to dream up to perpetuate this puerile political cosmology."
@RnaudBertrand@JakeDodge17 Quite a few political analysts you've interacted with/referenced cite Pew polling. Examples: Glenn Greenwald, Noam Chomsky. It's highly respected across the political spectrum, esp. its global attitudes survey.
You yourself cited it several times in 2024.
@JDHaltigan@ggreenwald What do you believe is the something else that is at play? If you can't put your finger on it, whatever it is, do you think it somehow invalidates any portion of his public remarks or any aspect of his current career?
@mtracey What's with the serial use of "sort of"? I've seen you speaking at length online at least 10 times and usually you're more precise in your language.
@iownthelibs@ryangrim@Kittfornow@DropSiteNews What do you mean by "offered your stories"? The fact of the stories being published and being accessible to all (no pay wall) is the offering. Beyond that, reputation of the journalists, factual substance, timely/relevant information etc. enhances the offer's attractiveness.
@AkimotoThn Sorry, 90% of under-35 oppose the Gaza carnage. 60% is all American respondents (summer 2025 poll). Hence, a no-brainer political issue for any politician with any smarts, like Mamdani, especially in NYC.
@AkimotoThn True, and that's very good. But the Gaza carnage is so great, 60% of young Americans oppose it. It's an important political signifier. Meanwhile, several former Obama/Clinton aids serve on Mamdani's brain trust.
@AkimotoThn@ZohranKMamdani We'll see what happens. Structurally, Mamdani's victory speech is quite similar to Obama's victory speech in 2008. How much positive reform -- or even reform lip service post-election -- did we get from Obama? Not much.
@hasantoxr@CodeByPoonam Did you listen to the interview with Elon Musk on Joe Rogan? According to Elon, there is a non-zero chance that we end up with a Terminator outcome.
@mattyglesias@zachdcarter Here we’re talking about inspirational background and policy proposals. Are
her background and her contention that policy proposals are essentially lies inspirational?
