REINFORCEMENT CALCULATIONS (KGs. & PIECES)

When dealing with any reinforced concrete structure, one of the critical materials used in its construction is rebar. These usually come in different sizes in the Kenyan market and can range from ø6 to ø40 rebars.

Rebar can be purchased as 12m pieces depending on different sizes, hence the rates will vary or a fixed rate per kilogram, regardless of the rebar size.

Understanding how to calculate the amount of rebar that will be used in your structure is a sure way of future-proofing yourself from dubious and manipulative ‘trusted fundis’ on site.

Below we have a footing (1500x1500x400) and a column neck (300x300x2.5m high), which we will use as an example in calculating the reinforcement both in terms of kilograms and total linear length, and ultimately the pieces needed.

We will also give the pricing both for pieces and per kilogram.

So, let's delve deeper in this;
