5:30am, coffee in hand, watching the sunrise over the mountains and the Moon, Jupiter and Venus do a dance. Been thinking about something that's defined my 26-year journey as an entrepreneur.
I'm always too early, and not just when it comes to waking up.
1999: Selling EverQuest digital currency on eBay. People thought I was crazy. Today, gaming runs on digital assets. Billions of dollars.
2011: Started accepting Bitcoin for digital game assets - solved real problems like paying my China team without wire transfers and eliminated PayPal chargebacks. All while the world called it drug dealer money.
2013: Built one of the top Bitcoin mining operations in the US. Then years later deployed 160,000 GPUs with 300+ megawatt of greenfield infrastructure dedicated to Bitcoin mining, making us a top US miner across both networks.
2018: Pitched a GPU compute marketplace to investors. They couldn't see it. Today, every tech company scrambles for AI compute worth hundreds of billions.
The pattern is always the same. I see something inevitable 3-5 years before the market catches up. For 3-5 years, I look wrong.
But there's a massive difference between being wrong and being early.
When you're wrong, fundamentals don't make sense. When you're early, everything makes logical sense except market psychology.
I've successfully exited every company I've had full control over. Not luck. Pattern recognition plus execution at scale.
Being early is lonely. Investors don't get it. Customers aren't ready. Friends think you're chasing ghosts.
But I'm driven. I love building, creating, pushing boundaries intelligently. When you see the future clearly, you don't get discouraged by timing. You keep building until the world catches up.
Right now at SLYD Group Inc. , we're building AI infrastructure that feels inevitable to us. Maybe we're early again. Maybe this time the timing is perfect.
Being too early isn't a bug in my process. It's a feature. The old saying rings true, the early 🕊️ gets the 🪱!
What patterns do you see coming that others are missing? What are you building that feels too early but inevitable?
It’s time we addressed the elephant in the cloud room: the high cost of compute! 🐘💰At SLYD, we're making GPU resources accessible and affordable, without any vendor lock-in. Who else is tired of the cloud compute tax? #GPUCompute#Budgeting
