Murals serve multiple purposes including aesthetically enhancing the building and neighborhood - and providing local emerging artists the opportunity to work with artists further established in their practice.
Did you know you can find great public art at schools? Local schools? In August 2004, an anonymous donor a long with Sandhill School commissioned five sculptures to be placed throughout the campus. Local sculptor, Greg Fitzpatrick spent time at the school, getting to know the
students and it’s learning programs and philosophies. Fitzpatrick created six beautiful sculptures that can be found both inside and outside the school grounds. Collectively, they are referred to as The Hero’s Journey. The sculpture pictured is specifically titled Lean on Me and
In 2018, One Columbia for Arts and History, in partnership with The COMET bus system to create an ART BUS featuring artwork by Laurie McIntosh. The rolling mural features over 15 landmarks from around the Columbia area and the eclectic spirit and architecture of the city.
The process for this project, and projects like this, started with a conceptual design that was then painted on a several large-scale canvases. The paintings were then photographed by George Fulton Studio and converted to digital images that were transferred to a vinyl wrap.
Meet Stormwater’s newest Resident, Malik Greene, @leakylikeafaucet_ a self-taught oil painter focused on creating social commentary regarding himself and society at large through intimate narrative-based artwork. The residency, a collaboration between Stormwater and One Columbia.

This Sculpture Saturday, we are recognizing Spire by Jay Hubbell, who passed away in 2018. Nestled in the corner of a parking lot at Oak and Gervais where this tall stack of stone masonry sculpture sits. Hubbell said the artwork is meant to be a “social equalizer,”.
