BLOCKBUSTER: The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.
This century, teams were 0-640 when trailing by 8+ runs in an NCAA softball tourney game.
It's now 1-640. Texas Tech was down 8 runs WITH ONLY ONE OUT LEFT and somehow became the first 🤯
meanwhile the men's final four featured matchups where:
- both teams shot under 36% from the field
- a team, ranked no. 1 for weeks, was down by 30 with under 7 minutes to go
where is the commentary about the future of the men's game?
Less than a month back after a 10-month absence due to an Achilles tear, Jayson Tatum now has
- 7 double-doubles
- a 32-point game
- a player of the week award
- a triple-double
“I know I look rusty, I know I’ve made some mistakes. But one thing I do know is I’m trying my ass off… I’m a little winded but 10 and a half months after tearing my Achilles I’m giving it all I got. And I know each game I’m going to get a little better.”
— Jayson Tatum
I am generally refraining from Jayson Tatum/Jaylen Brown talk but I feel compelled to weigh in here as an exception:
1) Jayson Tatum has been sacrificing for years, so the notion he hasn’t been is completely misguided. Both stars have — and both acknowledged it about the other after the 2024 title (there’s a bunch of clips of Jaylen talking about Jayson’s sacrifice from the Finals)
2) I inherently disagree that a team is “Someone’s.” It feels like a lazy media narrative. It’s Joe Mazzulla’s team if anything, but there’s not this thing of like ‘Oh, you have to make yourself smaller now because this guy is having a great year.’ I don’t get why this because a talking point. He’ll come back and be his best self, provided he’s able to be.
3) There’s about to (again) be two of the NBA’s best players on the same roster. They’ve made 5 ECFs, two Finals, and won a championship together. Why are we still doing this?? This conversation was put to bed years ago! They’ve both been mature! This shouldn’t have legs anymore!
This picture of the Attorney General ignoring the victims of abuse while lying to protect the wealthy, powerful men who abused them, is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.
Jaylen Brown really gushed when asked by @ByJayKing about Anfernee Simons being traded:
“Anfernee has all the respect in the world from me — it's a business, but there's a human aspect to it. And since he's been here, he's contributed to winning. He's won us some games. He's just a great, great person, great kid on and off the floor, just humble lik — I hope he gets everything that he's looking for just because he just fit right in with his group of guys in our locker room. He could have had different thoughts and thought differently, and his energy could have been different.”
“Man, he was a great teammate and did everything he needed to do that we asked him and more and contributed to winning. So Anfernee has all the respect in the world from me, and I hope he gets everything he deserves.”
It’s so dystopian watching him make jokes to cheerful laughter from his supporters (including a little girl in an American flag dress), while a reporter is trying to ask him about the man his agents murdered on the street.
There will probably be a lot made of the #Patriots path to the Super Bowl if they beat Denver without Nix.
However, the path of defenses for Drake Maye has been a gauntlet: Chargers (6th), Texans (2nd), and Broncos (8th) all have top-8 defenses by EPA.
On a night where the Red Sox got outbid for Alex Bregman, a reminder that the Red Sox have the fifth most expensive tickets in MLB, and rank 23rd in how much of that revenue they spend on players
Roman Anthony on Alex Bregman:
“I would love to have him back. I love Breggy. He was a huge part of my success and a lot of the young guys — not only the young guys but many of the guys in the clubhouse. We’re all on the same page as to where we stand with him and what we hope happens… Selfishly, I’d love for him to be hitting behind me for as long as he can. He knows where I stand with that."
Get. It. Done.
