Today, we concluded another partnership with Sterling Bank to launch the Sterling Bank National Mathematics Quiz. A nationwide competition designed to discover, reward, and celebrate Nigeria’s brightest young minds.
Starting Saturday, June 20, 2026, students from Primary 1 to SS3 across Nigeria will compete online every two weeks for the prizes.
1st Prize – ₦500,000
2nd Prize – ₦300,000
3rd Prize – ₦200,000
That’s ₦1,000,000 every two weeks and ₦24,000,000 every year dedicated solely to rewarding academic excellence among Nigerian children.
But this is not just about winning money.
It is about building a culture where intelligence is celebrated.
It is about giving every child, whether in Lagos, Enugu, Kano, Bayelsa, Maiduguri, Aba, or a remote village, an opportunity to compete on a national stage.
Competition Schedule
• Every two weeks
• Saturdays
• 6:00 PM – 6:20 PM
• Online nationwide
The top performers will then advance to a live championship session streamed online next day same time, where Nigerians can watch some of the country’s brightest students solve challenging mathematical problems in real time.
To ensure fairness and give more students the opportunity to benefit, every student can only win once.
And here’s what makes it even better:
Every participant will be able to review their questions after the competition, identify their weaknesses, learn from their mistakes, and prepare for the next challenge.
This means that even students who don’t win become better mathematicians.
Parents, teachers, school owners, and students should begin preparing immediately.
The questions will be tough and the competition will be fierce.
Registration is now open:

Please share this with every child, parent, teacher, school owner, principal, and education stakeholder you know.
Let’s make academic excellence prestigious again.

We just shipped something on Educare that could change education forever.
Our software now predicts a child’s learning outcomes with high precision including WAEC, JAMB, and IGCSE results while they’re still in SS2 or early SS3.
How? We trained it on billions of data points from the school ecosystem we’ve gathered for the past 12 years:
Termly performance. Attendance. Punctuality. Behavior. Homework completion. Lesson participation. Health. Class sitting plan. Everything.
Now students can see their progress and their blind spots in real time.
And schools can intervene before it’s too late.
Data, used right, is the most powerful teacher we’ve ever had.
This is a huge step towards the betterment of our educational system and the focus is exemplary. The support it is getting is also worthwhile and beautiful.
This is heavy.

We are making education more rewarding and exciting.
Within 10 years, we will be the greatest workforce in Africa.
Over the past few weeks, we have been intensely designing the new model for Igbo Apprenticeship program (Igba Boi) and Imu Aka Oru ( Skill Development).
This center will be built in our proposed center in Enugu which is the heart of the South East.
We are using a global framework for this and localizing it.
Skills like plumbing, masonry, carpentry, welding, auto mechanics and HVAC will be learnt the most practical way with very high precision to meet global standards.
We will be the greatest workforce in Africa in 10 years.
Enugu State Government has now made it compulsory for all their schools to participate in 2027 South East Maths Olympiad.
They are 1260 public schools.
I will be meeting with all their principals today to address them.
This is intentionality and we appreciate the Governor.
Day one of South East Educators Conference Completed.
All the top hotels in Awka were all fully booked for 3 days.
Education is a great source of tourism.
Imagine a time where millions of students from different countries in Africa will be trooping in to the South East for qualitative education?
South East is now known as a place where quality education is delivered to children at scale.
The future is looking exciting.
South East Educators conference is currently ongoing at ICC Awka.
When educators catch the vision, the journey becomes easier for us.
Know this, we are building the greatest workforce from Africa in 10 years and we will achieve it.
I think having a regional basic education curriculum will not be out of place.
Relying on NERDC’s curriculum has set everyone 20 years behind civilization.
Since we now have regional development commissions like the SEDC, NDDC etc, it should be encouraged.
What do you think?
We’ve started gradually upgrading the maths teachers in the South East and also started releasing the maths training videos on the South East Maths Olympiad LMS.
Maths is now being taught in the most exciting and easy to understand way.
One issue we discovered was that our current maths teachers know their onions but they are very boring and uninteresting.
They also have very stale and ineffective pedagogy.
We will be revamping that as-well.
We will be started a major maths campaign across the South East. We called it the gospel of maths.
Encourage every child and school you know to participate in the South East Maths Olympiad 2027, because that is the only way they can benefit from what is coming.
There are about 164 universities in UK and there are only two Black V.Cs thus far, both of Nigerian descent. The first is Prof Charles Egbu. He became Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University in November 2020.
The second is Prof. David Uzochukwesi Mba. He is the Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham City University (from October 2023).
Interestingly, they are from the same State (Anambra).
My pain is why the best don't stay in Nigeria. When I was a child, Europeans and Asians were all around us as neighbours or teachers.
Things have really fallen apart!
Today, I engaged the team at International STEM Olympiad which is happening on from July 2nd - 8th, 2026 in Rome, Italy.
153 countries will be participating and I requested that the South East Olympiad winners represent the country.
Once we conclude it this week and they approve, that means the show continues in Rome.
The winners teachers will accompany them to Rome as well.
Our children will come out top in the world.
The world will know us a place with millions of super brilliant talents.
Command Secondary School, Mpu Enugu State top all top spots in the Senior Category elimination stage for South East Maths Olympiad.
They couldn't win the big prize but confessed that this competition changed their school and mindset of their students forever.
The fact that no Major media outlet is reporting on this amazing project tells you a lot about Nigeria and its people.
If it was that small fooIish streamer boy, they would have been reporting about him three times in a minute.
This is Onah Tobit representing Anambra State in Primary Category.
He got second position in the South East Maths Olympiad. He lost to the winner with 1 point.
The moment of truth.
Laptops open, pencils in hand, and minds fully focused as students prepare to begin the Mathematics Olympiad competition.
Voice of the East is on ground bringing you live moments from the competition.
