For today’s diagnostic assays, animal-free blockers raise the bar even further. They deliver consistently low background, superior lot-to-lot reproducibility, and a defined, ethical alternative to serum-derived materials. That consistency makes them especially well-suited for automated, high-throughput, and globally scaled platforms.
Assay interference can quietly undermine immunoassay performance—leading to false positives, unstable signals, and reduced confidence in results.
High-quality immunoassay blockers are essential for maintaining assay integrity. They help minimize non-specific binding and reduce interference from HAMA, rheumatoid factor (RF), and heterophilic antibodies—protecting both sensitivity and specificity.
Explore our portfolio of high-performance immunoassay blockers:
➡️ Animal-Free HAMA Blockers – Low background, defined composition
➡️ K-BLOCK™ / Mouse-FREE IgG – High-performance, animal-free universal blockers
➡️ TRU Block™ ULTRA, TRU Block™, TRU Block™ 3 – Proven protection against common assay interference
➡️ Mouse IgG – HAMA Blocker – Targeted protection for mouse monoclonal-based assays

As our Women’s Health Week series comes to a close, we’re highlighting the importance of cervical cancer screening and the role oncoviruses can play in cancer development.
Viruses such as HPV, HBV, HCV, EBV and HTLV-1 are associated with cancer progression, and co-infections may further intensify their effects. In cervical cancer, HPV detection remains especially important as screening strategies continue to evolve. According to the American Cancer Society, cervical cancer is most frequently diagnosed in women ages 35 to 64, and cases are rarely seen in women who have received regular screening before age 65.
As traditional Pap smears are increasingly complemented or replaced by HPV DNA tests, PCR-based assays offer sensitive detection of multiple HPV types and may support expanded access through patient self-collection-compatible formats.
Meridian supports viral oncology research and multiplex assay development with high-performance antigens, antibodies and molecular reagents for sensitive, scalable detection. Meridian’s Lyo-Ready Genotyping Direct qPCR Urine Mix is designed to support fast, precise and reproducible allelic discrimination from urine samples, helping assay developers advance urine-based genotyping workflows.

Colorectal cancer remains a major health concern for women and is the second leading cause of cancer death overall in the United States. For adults at average risk, regular screening is recommended beginning at age 45, and detecting colorectal cancer early offers the best chance for successful treatment.
While colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy have long been established screening methods, stool-based tests continue to gain momentum because they are non-invasive and can be completed at home. In particular, multitarget stool DNA testing (FIT-DNA or mt-sDNA) has seen growing adoption since its FDA approval in 2014, helping expand access to convenient screening options by identifying biomarkers associated with colorectal neoplasia.
Evidence has shown strong performance of stool DNA testing in screening populations, including adults in the 45 to 49 age group, as screening guidelines continue to emphasize earlier detection.
Meridian’s Liquid Biopsy Stool qPCR mixes are designed to support the development of multitarget stool DNA assays, helping assay developers build robust, high-performance workflows for stool-based molecular testing. By enabling innovative non-invasive approaches, these solutions can contribute to better screening strategies and improved outcomes for women and all patients.

During Women’s Health Week, it’s important to recognize that breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related death, with approximately 2.3 million new cases diagnosed worldwide each year.
The traditional approach to diagnosing breast cancer relies on immunohistochemistry (IHC), a method that is time-consuming and requires skilled pathologists. However, this publication in Biochemistry and Biophysics Reports (https://t.co/PgTMYeCkix) demonstrates the potential to replace IHC with multiplex qPCR analysis using the four standard biomarkers currently used in IHC: estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, HER2 and Ki-67 proteins. With the millions of breast cancer screening tests performed each year, high-throughput qPCR technology has the potential to improve breast cancer screening and dramatically decrease the turnaround time and cost, while improving the accuracy of cancer detection.
Meridian has created high-concentration and glycerol-free enzymes and master mixes to help high-throughput assay developers reduce manufacturing time and produce user-friendly assays. They are designed to minimize sample variation, reduce background noise, facilitate quicker reactions and maintain high-sensitivity levels.

Women’s Health Week (May 10-16) is a reminder that proactive care, not reactive treatment, can significantly improve long-term health outcomes. Many high-impact conditions remain asymptomatic in their early stages, making routine screening and early detection essential components of preventive care.
Advances in molecular and immunodiagnostic technologies continue to expand the capabilities of early detection. Highly sensitive assays can now identify pathogens and clinically relevant biomarkers at very low concentrations, supporting earlier intervention and more informed clinical decision-making. Central to assay performance are the high-quality molecular reagents that enable analytical sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility and confidence in results.
Supporting women’s health means ensuring access not only to screening, but to diagnostic solutions laboratories and clinicians can rely on, built on reagents optimized for precision and consistent performance across molecular and immunoassay workflows.
At Meridian Life Science, our molecular reagents are engineered to support sensitive and reliable detection of low-abundance targets, helping laboratories advance earlier and more routine screening initiatives in women’s health. Because when accurate answers come sooner, timely intervention can follow, and that’s what Women’s Health Week is all about.
