RIVERS DEPUTY GOVERNOR LEADS DIGNITARIES AT SERVICE OF SONGS FOR LATE MRS COMFORT ADA OMEREJI

The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, on Saturday represented the Rivers State Government at a Service of Songs held in honour of Late Mrs Comfort Ada Opara-Ajoku Omereji (née Opara), mother of former Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Chief David Omereji.

The solemn event took place in Egbeda Community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, as family members, friends, political leaders, clergy, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the deceased, who passed away at the age of 85. She is scheduled to be laid to rest on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Among the distinguished personalities present were Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, Rt. Hon. Adams Dabotorudima, Chief Emeka Bekee, Barr. Emma Okah, and Chief Oris Onyiri, alongside several serving and former council chairmen and former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The event also attracted notable figures from Nigeria's entertainment industry, including Nollywood actors Victor Osuagwu, Ejike Asiegbu, and Gentle Jack.
The service, conducted by the Salvation Ministries, featured worship sessions, tributes, special prayers, choral renditions, and a gospel music performance.

Delivering the sermon, Pastor Niyi David urged attendees to live purposefully and wisely, with eternity in view. He described the late Mrs Omereji as a woman of sacrifice and virtue who dedicated her life to the service of humanity and had successfully completed her earthly journey.

“Life is transient, and everyone must strive to leave behind a legacy worthy of remembrance,” the cleric emphasized, while encouraging those she left behind to emulate her exemplary lifestyle.

In a heartfelt tribute, Mrs Chinyere David Omereji, wife of Chief David Omereji, described the deceased as a loving and virtuous mother who embraced her not merely as a daughter-in-law but as her own daughter. She recalled the late matriarch's unwavering support, wisdom, and commitment to family values.

Speaking during the event, former Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Chief Emma Wonodi, remembered the late Mrs. Comfort Omereji as a compassionate and caring woman whose kindness earned her the love and respect of many within and beyond her community.

He noted that although she had departed to be with her Creator, her legacy and fond memories would continue to inspire her children, family members, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The Service of Songs and Night of Tributes marked the commencement of the final rites of passage for the late Mrs Comfort Ada Opara-Ajoku Omereji, whose life of service, humility, and devotion was celebrated by all in attendance.
