Thoughts on how I think Celtics should proceed with the off-season, same short draft thoughts, and free agency. First non college stuff that I wrote check it out below.
Today, Finn (@FinnDraft) and Nile (@NileHoops) answer some questions asked by listeners via Twitter. Hear them answer questions such as “If you only had access to 3 Data points ( like ft%, height, dunks etc….) to evaluate a prospect, which ones would you choose?”, “Anything you’ve seen from these playoffs that is influencing your board or draft philosophies?”, and “What prospect are you the most worried about being wrong about and why?”. Adam Silver said that he hopes the new NBA Draft will further incentive teams to scout better, draft better and to build deeper rosters.
Points to the teams that made the Finals as far as culture, depth, etc.
KAT:
"I just felt a calm and a peace that had to be come from the woman above (his mom). I felt like a kid. It was just fun out here. It felt like I was a kid getting ready to go play my Saturday AAU games and Sunday AAU games. In a way I felt like I was seeing her in the stands"
@bannedroomE This more for the folks that think it’s a simple equation to just play Harper more. All three got functions that they’re bringing that’s need to win the series. Mitch most likely won’t be perfect with it, but he understands that.
Jose was an easy gettable guy that should’ve taken a lot more to get. dTOV, oTOV, and 3 point shotmaking all you need from guards, all that size stuff don’t matter.
2021
11.3 3PA/100 | 34.6 3P%
5.3 FTA/100 | 85.1 FT%
Derrick was an easy shooter evaluation.
Suggs in a similar boat rn.
2026
10.7 3PA/100 | 33.9 3P%
3.5 FTA/100 | 85.5 FT%
Playtype efficiency is bad though, whites advantage there I can’t stress enough made it absolutely coded.
It comes down to Jay’s O combination not being worth it (Jaylens obv). Got two players on 30+ usage w/ good margin guys, if a major offensive piece is needed then roster and playstyle needs a major shift.
@Oneiric47 Hauser’s a flat out better player to me. Trey’s a bomb transition player and play finisher, but like you said he doesn’t guard or shoot significantly better and I assume he’d be expecting some type of creation role which would most def hurt the offense
@PauliePWalnuts He was never a scared shooter in terms of hindering his development though, in general that sort of narrative is aesthetics bias. Buying on sub-par players for environment boost is how you become the Nuggets.
Derrick got some of cleanest pre-nba shooting indicators with special feel that was already translating before he got to the Cs in 2022. Tatum’s playmaking isn’t good enough to transform an ok shooter to a great one.
@Oneiric47 He wasn’t nearly as good of a shooter before working with Boston and there’s a very clear Tatum playmaking boost.
Difference is the swindling comes at the margins where a decent player can help a great team in ways they can’t a mid one. We need more than margins rn
