The COACH can make the workout GOOD by having a Plan, Purpose, and Progressions.
The PLAYER can take the workout from GOOD to GREAT by their Energy, Effort, and Enthusiasm.
There’s the assumption that working with D1 players or pros means you’re great at player development. Gotta remember, it’s a whole lot easier to polish diamonds than it is to forge one💪🏼
Remember when you tell a player or your kid to “takeover” that there is plenty of ways to “takeover” it’s not just go get the ball and shoot… Takeover by passing, cutting , defending, rebounding, diving on loose balls, talking and leading your team and creating high energy!!!
When a player is comfortable handling the ball and they honestly feel like no one can take it from them no matter what they do.. they are very dangerous off the dribble
Really Having the ball on a string is a special feeling
Weekly conversations with @jcoophoops have really helped me talk through things.
This week we discussed building relationships, creating a vision for players, and the reality that you can’t coach/train everyone.
Next week, I should discuss how to center myself on camera 🤦🏻♂️
The “I’m cool” attitude when working out does not impress anyone and does not get you any better .. always unsure why so many players feel the need to act that way
Don’t disrespect the game and don’t disrespect your teammates and coaches
The best challenge I give to the top players & leaders I work with?
Develop a “WILLINGNESS”
Show up each day willing -
•To be told the truth.
•To do uncomfortable things.
•To be held accountable.
•To admit you don’t have all the answers.
•To fail in front of others.
We would rather tell every player to just finish off of two feet than actually TEACH them how to decide
That blows my mind
Make good decision makers. Take the time to do that
You’re holding players back by telling them they can ONLY do certain things on the floor
