Reading about this amazing doctor — he was retired before October 2023, returned to volunteer in the hospital, was abducted and imprisoned for 200 days, tortured, starved, abused. He returned to the hospital as soon as he was released. A true hero. https://t.co/zQmDsQn8Wd

The family of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the former director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, says they feel abandoned by the international community and human rights organizations as his health rapidly deteriorates in Israeli detention.
Dr. Abu Safiya has been held without charge since December 2024. According to his lawyer, who visited him on 2 July, he appeared severely injured, weak, had difficulty breathing and speaking, and showed signs of extreme psychological distress.
His lawyer reported that Dr. Abu Safiya said: "This is the last time you will see me... They brought me here to kill me. I don't see myself surviving."
According to Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI, he was beaten by prison guards with a hammer and metal batons before a Supreme Court hearing in June.
🚨BREAKING: Two years, seven months, and three days later, the remains of Dr. Maysara Azmi Al-Rayes and his family were finally recovered from the ruins of their home in Gaza, where they were killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Al-Wahidi used to organize World Cup screenings in Gaza— brief moments of joy and respite for a people facing extermination. He would gather people around the screen so they could breathe—if only for an hour—far away from the bombardment, hunger, and death. So Israel killed him.
You read this again and again and your brain melts because how is it that a man who is so clearly innocent, so incredibly courageous, so obviously a hero against the most evil villains, abandoned by the world to his torturers.
🚨BREAKING : According to his lawyer, Israeli authorities have transferred Palestinian Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya to solitary confinement as a form of abuse. He is reportedly subjected to daily violent assaults and held in extremely harsh conditions without any charges.
His lawyer warns that his health is in grave danger due to the conditions of his detention.
Despite repeated statements from his legal team documenting the severity of his condition, the @BBC continues to publish misleading claims about his case. We call on the BBC to uphold the principles of accurate, evidence-based journalism and report the facts with the rigor they demand of others.
