🚨 Chelsea in process of finalising deal to sign Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion. Permission granted by #BHAFC for medical; if all goes to plan 35yo to do it by end of week & join #CFC in Hong Kong. 2yr contract agreed in principle @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/1h5bGFie4U
The only player left for us who’s ever scored 10 in a season is Mitoma who probably played less than 50% of the games last season.
Back to back seasons we’ve sold a 10+ goal a season striker. You can’t compete without players who score goals. Simple as.
🚨 Chelsea exploring move to sign Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion. Terms end 2027 & #BHAFC aware of interest. Early stage but optimism on all sides deal can be done; quality + leadership appeals to Alonso / #CFC@TheAthleticFC post @kierangill_DM https://t.co/wVkn0vcK7h
It’s funny because even after selecting 2 injury prone RB’s, he had the opportunity to call up another one *cough* Trent *cough* when one of them inevitably got injured. Called up another CB and justified it with versatility, and now we have no RB’s. Bravo 👏
There you go, 60 mins and he brings all his attackers on. The real shame is it just seems 60 mins too late.
The defence + midfield have done a really good job of getting the ball in dangerous areas so far, just nobody in those positions to make those attacks count.
What I will say re Hurzeler.
There is no need considering this is a Saturday fixture, to rest our whole attacking lineup. He’s started Kostoulas and Howell as the only attackers?!
How are you meant to score at Anfield with those guys as your only goal threats?!
They’re both interesting attacking players, but this is how you leave youngsters out to dry. If anything it looks like he’s trying to show the board that this is his 2nd team, and he needed more players in the summer, hence why he’s in the form he’s in.
Either way, bad look.

@nonewthing I think summer 24 was the stem. O’Riley, Kadioglü and Gruda all seemed unnecessary at the time and we ended up stockpiling attacking players causing 6 of them to leave on loan/permanently and we’ve lost lots of sources of goals. Not to mention £40m on Rutter who can’t even start.
The data led recruitment being the issue is up there as a big factor I think. The successful signings we’ve made like Mitoma and Caicedo weren’t because they had the best numbers. Everybody in Asia knew about Mitoma, and Caicedo had just had a move to Utd fall through.
🚨 Critics believe Brighton have squandered around £300m over the past four transfer windows due to the club’s determination to be governed by data.
It’s believed the club were warned off Eiran Cashin, but signed him regardless due to strong data reports.

They weren’t the finding diamonds in the rough signings the media made them out to be, they were just good players to buy for their valuation in the market.
The issue comes when you’re throwing £25-30m on your Kadioglu’s, O’Riley’s and Gruda’s.
I think Hurzeler has been dealt a bad hand this season tbh. Had 3 guys who scored 10 last season and lost one whilst the other seems to be a shadow of himself after injury. I don’t agree with the XI a lot of of time but I personally think our squad is simply worse this year.
Sometimes you get caught in thinking that your game plan is working because you’re ahead on the score line. But it wasn’t right from kick off. Fulham brought on Sessegnon and Chukwueze because they knew we had no threat on the right hand side. 80’ first sub lol.
#FULBHA – 74’ VAR OVERTURN
VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that Welbeck was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed.
