Postdoctoral Research Fellow @ UoExeter/LSST:UK Consortium. I care about your photometric matches so you don't have to, also statistics in exoplanets. He/him
@MartianColonist @aussiastronomer No I mean the model that has a “-“ significance — I’d separately place a decent-sized wager that a “~1” sigma significance is <1 not >1, but that’s not the model I meant!
@megschwamb@johngizis@AAS_Publishing Excellent :) I figured you’d probably have that all sorted but on the off chance I thought a shameless plug for an excellent journal couldn’t hurt
@chrislintott Actually also the explicit 'go here if you have dietary issues' floor-split seemed good too. Although I didn't require it and therefore can't comment on its success it was nice to see that so obviously thought about
@mattkenworthy Which one is that? Not the meta one, right? I’m still on Twitter and mast-a-don (the OG “other place”, I think, which we have to obfuscate in some way?) wondering what everyone else is talking about
@astrodave2 I mean it's still A Thing. I think it had potential to be the replacement but a) everyone was impatient for an immediately slick & exactly-the-same experience out of the gate for free, & b) a small N were luddites who publicly ruined the transition moment for the rest of us :P
@astrodave2 I'm still out here wondering wtf was wrong with the elephant one (also, are we not saying their names because they're blocked or because we're being cool?)
As someone jumping between #NAM2023 sessions across a random set of sub-fields, my overriding takeaway is how true https://t.co/0rxBfpCvJ3 is. Define the “basic” nomenclature from your field for those (new to astronomy or just curious) in the room who aren’t versed in the work!
@aussiastronomer Coz it’s cool; yes they are; I imagine it’s weighted or they’re in a bit with less breeze (Hannah says cycling shorts); Murrayfield (at home) is the only time they’re up top I imagine; and the speed of sound is pretty well known (but certainly you hear lag in the crowd sometimes)
@aussiastronomer What questions? Just the best performance of the best national anthem bar none — and I can say that because objectively ours is the worst without doubt. The nice lady does get let down off the roof eventually, promise! Scotland at home is always worth it for that alone
@aussiastronomer This is like when you watch a whole murder mystery show in a weekend and catch up and NO ONE IS TELLING YOU WHODUNNIT AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE WEEK FOR THE NEXT UPDATE. This is very curious and mysterious and you now obviously owe us all answers immediately dangnabbit
@mfbieger Very tempted, once I'd made it to the bottom left of the figure, to just give up and be a philosopher all day... If you manage to score a sweet gig like Epictetus (after the "freed from slavery" bit, granted) you don't even have to bother writing your own book!
@asteronomer @ESAGaia Hmmm right. That's also shown that there was an update to the correction that I now need to check for correcting 2-p solution sources! Will also dig into the BP/RP biases. Either way, thanks for the PSA, now I know to check stuff :)
@asteronomer @ESAGaia Is it just the G-band ones, or the BP+RP corrections as well do you know? Or, do you have a link to this update to save me a google?
@asteronomer @ESAGaia Not obvious at all -- actually important to know whether you bothered getting DR3 datasets to replace your *e*DR3 datasets (since you'd naively assume they're the same for position+brightness). Might have saved me a double correction in a few important places...!
@sarahkendrew No, that's the sort of answer I was looking for. I contacted the OUP who redirected me through to a different OUP email for RASTI's typesetters, who haven't responded. It seemed to me to be a publishers issue, but I suppose going back to the editor is the right answer, thanks!
Ok, the continuing travails of getting this paper accepted are just silly now. After waiting a total of 15 weeks to find reviewers, I've now been ghosted for almost 3 weeks after manuscript acceptance, when pre-proofs are supposed to go online in 2 days and proofs within 2 weeks.
