Hey y'all,
We all ignored the huge red flags associated with SBF because "he looked smart" and "he made a lot of money." Then it turned out that he was dumb as rocks, was a sociopath, and was just stealing our money.
The next cycle is going to be even more noisy, with even worse behavior. It has become really easy to launch a trash L2, and it's fairly easy to do that trick, perfected by a certain chain that reorgs every other day, where you find someone who is actually doing real work and you parrot what they say, while angling for a photo op with Vitalik. So we need to be extra vigilant about the red flags that characterize trash L2s:
* Project narrative does not match project tech. E.g. centralized sequencers and layer-2s that lack fraud proofs are trash that is at odds with crypto.
* Projects that sell tokens now in order to raise money to do the work that will lead to some other technology later. Third prong of the Howey test has something to say about this, and it starts with S and continues with ecurity Offering.
* Founders dumping personal tokens pre-launch. Teams should be locked up. 8-figure sales pre-launch in order to "thank the staff" are about as OK as SBF stealing everyone's money because he's an "effective altruist."
* Very low float tokens. SBF played this game of manipulating low-float token valuations and borrowing against them. Enough said.
* Founders complaining that they are running out of cocaine. I'm no moral police, but come on.
So how does one cut through the noise? There is a simple test. Crypto has just a few real blockers at any given time. For instance, in the last cycle, scalability and performance were the outstanding problems and Avalanche and Solana provided two approaches to tackle them. These days, I believe the blockers have to do with supporting multiple use cases on the same platform and integrating with TradFi -- but I might be wrong and others might have their own ideas of what blocks adoption by the next billion people.
Whatever these blockers are, say them out loud and ask: "Does this person bring something truly game changing to the table to address the biggest issues facing crypto right now? Would I invite this person to my family dinner and would they be able to explain why they are uniquely positioned to solve it?"
For the trash L2 game is trivially easy, and we just might be looking at a bunch of new sociopaths lining up to fill the void SBF left behind.
Dear Tokamak Network Community,
In 2023, we've seen a lot of great participation, which has spurred the development of the Tokamak Network Ecosystem. 22 project teams applied for 18 Project Grants and 4 Small Grants, totaling over $800,000.

It's the "Ethereum is dead" stage of the cycle again.
This narrative seems to intermittently rear its head (usually when $ETH is experiencing slow price action).
Funnily, just 6 months ago people were saying the same thing about $SOL and the Alt-L1 thesis.
Don't forget that Ethereum still has:
• The largest developer ecosystem
• The largest amount of funding (by far)
• A looming spot ETF (and institutional credibility no other crypto has outside of $BTC)
• The most users, TVL, and transactions (incl. L2s)
• Superior decentralisation and security to most other blockchains
• A strong deflationary mechanism (especially in a bull run when network activity is high)
Fade it at your own peril.. (this is coming from a guy who also owns a bag of SOL and a variety of alt L1/L2 solutions).

Don’t fuck this cycle up… AGAIN.
A thread of helpful tips. 🧵 👇
Almost everything is breaking multi year bear market trend ranges to the upside.
Your only goal is to get in a position and ride the trend until it gets euphoric.
This is the market condition where you can typically get a win rate of 90%+ with an RR over two.
The key is to buy support when you get the dips and the pull backs. This comes down to emotional mastery and your ability to execute when you get the proper trade set up.
Remember- ABS. Always be scanning. Find the trades around your style.
Don’t over leverage yourself where you’ll get spooked on every little pull back.
#Bitcoin spot ETF approval will bring in a wave of new money looking for ‘the next bitcoin.’
#Ethereum spot ETF approval will giga pump Eth and the ERC-20 ecosystem, especially the tools that every project relies on.
Then the money will trickle to the ETH L2’s and their ecosystems.
Solana continues to dominate market share just because it has a great narrative around it and they’re constantly making the blockchain better and faster.
This may be an actual rival this market cycle just because they have a rival amount of dev and vc support in the ecosystem.
There will be AI narrative that pumps that sector, then gaming coins, then there will probably be a big regulation story with the DOJ that will cause decentralized exchange tokens to pump hard as well.
Real world assets (RWA’s) are also getting some pretty major traction that I would dive in to as well.
Airdrops for protocols and dApps that pay users a % of profits for staking or holding the token will be huge. I have 6-7 spot bags paying out pretty healthy right now from fees.
Mess around with protocols on all the ecosystems (naming protocols, swaps, dex’s, NFT’s, yield farms, LP on dex’s, etc) to get in on those.
If your shitcoin spot bags pump hard… just remember to take SOME profit at least and let the rest ride. I like 60-70%.
If it can change your life or pay off debt, do it. I promise you will not regret it when the market gets frothy.
Set part of it aside for taxes so you don’t get caught with your pants down from your gains next year.
Last, but not least, follow some OG accounts that know what they are doing for trading and finding quality altcoins that have a team following the market that post a lot of alpha.
Here is a helpful list of people I like to follow to give a wide range of opinions on the market:
@CryptoGodJohn@bitbitcrypto@ShardiB2@Nebraskangooner@truecrypto@joemccann@elliotrades@ZssBecker@TraderMercury
@jordan_weaver18
@SalsaTekila
@EmZ_xbt
Most importantly. Don’t rely on others for your trades and your investments. Be accountable to yourself and don’t let others opinions dictate whether you hodl or sell.
That’s for you to decide.
This is your shot to make it. Don’t fuck it up again.
